Warm Up at Coldsnap
Premier Prince George Winter Music Festival Returns

Coldsnap, the Prince George Winter Music Festival, is one of the best winter parties in the country. For good music and fantastic live performances, it’s one party you don’t want to miss.

This year’s Coldsnap Music Festival is set to take place from Friday, January 25th to Saturday, February 2nd. Each day promises new and exciting musical acts at venues across the city. Coldsnap presents a unique opportunity to see both emerging local artists and established acts from around the world. The unique blend of musical genres featured at the festival includes blues, country, indie, folk, rock, and hip-hop.

Coldsnap has grown over the years since its inaugural festival in 2007 to become an integral part of the Prince George winter tourism season. It is entirely run by volunteers and put on by the Prince George Folkfest Society. On top of the stellar concerts, the festival also offers a series of free daytime workshops at schools, local businesses, and recreation centres created to help make music more accessible to everyone. Coldsnap is definitely one of the main attractions taking place in Northern British Columbia during this time of year.

This past fall, the Coldsnap Music Festival received an additional $12,000 funding boost from the province, helping to ensure that this year’s festival will likely be the best and biggest one yet. Prince George is already seen as a year-round outdoor destination, with hiking opportunities in the summer and backcountry skiing in the winter. What Coldsnap festival organizers and the province are trying to do is to have it seen as an urban arts and culture destination as well.

The Coldsnap 2019 lineup is all set and ready to go. There will be a concert taking place during every evening of the festival at either 7 pm or 7:30 pm. The venues for this year’s Coldsnap Festival are the Cranbrook Room at the Ramada Hotel, the Prince George Playhouse, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Everything kicks off on the evening of January 25th at 7:30 pm in the Cranbrook Room. The opening night will feature musical performances by The Jerry Cans, Ryan McNally Trio, and Khast’an Mens Drummers.

The Royal Canadian Legion is set to hold two nights of concerts devoted to putting the spotlight on regional musicians, on January 28th and January 30th. Admission is by donation, making it very easy and affordable to come and support artists from Northern British Columbia. There will also be a special “Leave it to the Ladies” night at the Prince George Playhouse on January 31st featuring only female musical acts. Finally, if there’s a young music fan in your life, then don’t miss the Coldsnap for Kids show at 2 pm, also at the Prince George Playhouse.

Coldsnap proves that the wintertime is a great time for a music festival. The awesome lineup is sure to impress even the most experienced of music festivalgoers. Come out to hear some of your favourite performers play live and to discover plenty of new artists to add to your playlist.
