5 New Shows to Get Excited About

With the long summer days drawing to a close, you might be looking for a show to watch on the shorter and chillier fall evenings. The good news is that there is a lot of great TV headed our way over the next few months. From epic dramas to lighthearted comedies, you’re sure to find something that’s right up your alley.

The Lord of the Rings (Prime Video)

From the epic book series, to the epic movies, and now to a truly epic TV show–The Lord of the Rings is coming to the small screen on Amazon Prime Video. The show is set thousands of years before the events of the books and movies, during the Second Age of Middle-earth and the re-emergence of evil in the fantasy world. Amazon has already made a five-season production commitment to the series for at least US$1 billion, making The Lord of the Rings the most expensive TV series ever made.

Y: The Last Man (FX)

Y: The Last Man is a long-anticipated show based on a critically acclaimed DC comic book of the same name that ran from 2002 to 2008. The story begins with a cataclysmic event that kills every mammal with a Y chromosome, sparing only one human male, Yorik, and his pet monkey. It follows Yorik and the other survivors of the new world as they try to restore society and rebuild something better in its place.

Midnight Mass (Netflix)

Just in time for the spooky season, Netflix will be releasing Midnight Mass, a show about a small and isolated island community that begins to experience supernatural events following the arrival of a charismatic and mysterious priest. A religious fervour grips the community, but the miracles might not be all they seem. Midnight Mass was created by Mike Flanagan, who was also behind the hit Netflix shows The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Ghosts (CBS)

If you’re not into horror shows but still want to get into the spirit of the season, then you might prefer Ghosts, a single-camera sitcom adapted from the BBC One series by the same name. Ghosts follows a young couple who inherit their dream home in the country, only to find out that the beautiful home is falling apart and haunted by a number of the previous residents.

Hawkeye (Disney+)

Hawkeye is the next series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s expansion into television. It brings back Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and introduces Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and the new Hawkeye of the Young Avengers. Not much else is known about the series beyond the fact that it will likely feature Barton training Bishop to take on the Hawkeye mantle.

Whether you’re into epic fantasy, post-apocalyptic stories, horror, comedy, or superheroes, there’s something for you to watch this fall. As the weather cools off, get ready to settle in for some entertaining evenings.
