2023 Toyota Corolla
A Changing Design

The 2023 Toyota Corolla offers reliability, safety, comfort, and convenience to drivers, as well as two exterior styles, sedan and hatchback.

Pick Your Poison

The 2023 Toyota Corolla is customizable to your needs, whether you want a different engine option or a different exterior design altogether. That’s right — while the compact sedan style is probably the first image that springs to mind when thinking about a Corolla, Toyota offers the nameplate in a hatchback style as well.

Modernizing a Staple

“The Toyota Corolla is designed to provide reliable transportation at a low price. The latest iteration only gets better with a more powerful engine option, new hybrid trim levels, and Toyota’s latest safety systems.” — Jack R. Nerard, True Car

For 2023, Toyota provided exterior upgrades and interior improvements to the Corolla model. Outside, a redesigned front fascia and new LED daytime running lights change the vehicle’s front-end look. New colour offerings also are available on the Corolla, both on the sedan and hatchback designs.

“While the changes outside are subtle, inside is where the update party is at.” — Miguel Cortina, MotorTrend

Inside, Toyota’s newest infotainment system comes to the Corolla, providing a more intuitive and enjoyable experience. Every model features an 8.0-inch infotainment screen that includes sharper graphics, faster processing, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All 2023 Toyota Corolla models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense, but even this suite of driver-assistance technologies gets an upgrade for the new model year. A pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, road-sign assist, and automatic high beams are standard across the lineup.

But perhaps the biggest news is that the Corolla gets a new base engine for its non-hybrid models. Toyota dropped the base 1.8-litre engine, leaving the more powerful 2.0-litre I-4 engine as the lone non-hybrid powertrain for 2023. The Corolla Hybrid also gets the option for all-wheel drive (AWD).

With all these changes, Toyota is making a statement that after 40 years, the Corolla is still the right choice in the compact sedan category.

Fun Driving

With its improved engine options, the 2023 Toyota Corolla offers better performance and excellent fuel efficiency. The gas-powered models deliver 169 horsepower, which is more than enough to power the Corolla up to speed on the highway, and the driving dynamics are pleasant with a suspension that isolates even the worst bumps in the road.

While the gas engine models deliver around 7.0 L/100km combined fuel economy, you can enjoy an astounding 4.5 L/100km combined fuel economy when opting for a hybrid model. With unpredictable gasoline prices, the Corolla Hybrid merely sips fuel rather than burning it.

A Solid Option

“Not just a compact sedan, but a pillar of the automotive establishment. One of the world’s best-selling cars over 12 generations and several decades. It didn’t reach these lofty heights of success by being unpredictable, radical, or edgy. Instead, the Corolla represents a safe buy, in more ways than one. It’s safe from an occupant protection point of view, yet also in terms of running costs, resale values, and reliability. You might still get lost occasionally, but you’ll always know where you are with a Corolla.” — Colin Ryan, KBB

While other compact sedans might not check all your boxes, the 2023 Toyota Corolla is upgraded and modern enough to meet all your needs and then some.
