2022 Toyota Tundra
A Bold Revitalization

Completely redesigned for the first time in 15 years, the 2022 Toyota Tundra offers a myriad of improvements that make it more competitive across its half-ton rivals.

A New Look

“The 2022 Tundra is an all-new truck with increased capabilities and a more dynamic, expressive look. It wears a large hexagonal grille, one that’s filled with trim-matched patterns and branding. The body sides are chiseled and muscular, with a solid foundation and pronounced wheel arches. The rear is neatly tucked in, with LED taillamps bracketing the tailgate, now stamped with the vehicle’s name.” — Jason Fogelson, KBB

Toyota was laser-focused on crafting every new detail on the 2022 Tundra, from the slim-mount LED headlamps that flank the hexagonal grille to the impressive “TUNDRA” stamped into the tailgate. Toyota’s designers appropriately call the Tundra’s new bodywork “chiseled liquid” which perfectly describes its rugged exterior.

The new Tundra is available in Double Cab and CrewMax configurations, offering four doors so passengers in both rows can easily access the cabin. The Double Cab can be configured with a 6.5- or 8.1-foot bed, while CrewMax trucks connect to either a 5.5- or 6.5-ft bed. One of the neatest and most useful features of the 2022 Toyota Tundra is the sheet-molded compound bed. Supported by an aluminum structure, this composite bed is standard on all models. It is lighter than a steel bed, as well as more resistant to scratching, denting, and rusting.

The interior look, materials, and overall quality of the Tundra were upgraded for the 2022 model year as well. Large air vents feature prominently on the dashboard, surrounding the large touchscreen infotainment system, which is either 8 or 12 inches depending on the trim level chosen and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A versatile centre console features a ton of cubby storage and a huge bin for organization.

A New Drive

“Toyota has gone to great lengths to improve every aspect of the latest Tundra pickup. The turbo V6 and 10-speed automatic deliver a powerful and smooth driving experience, and the optional 14-inch infotainment touchscreen looks great in the tightly constructed cabin.” — Ryan ZumMallen, Edmunds

Toyota made waves when it announced that the 2022 Tundra would not be available with a V8 engine. Instead, it is only offered with a twin-turbo V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission. However, that does not mean it lacks power.

The new engine comes in three different levels. On the SR trim level, it delivers 348 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. On all other models, it delivers 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It is also available in a hybrid version, which integrates an electric motor into the transmission, allowing for pure electric driving at low speeds. This combo generates 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Still incredibly capable, the 2022 Tundra can tow up to 5,035 kg when properly equipped and carry a payload of 825 kg. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Off-Road and TRD Sport packages are also available for the Tundra to make it more off-road ready.

The Same Safe Toyota

“The revitalized Tundra has the bold styling, contemporary tech, and modern mechanicals to better compete with American alternatives.” — Eric Stafford, Car and Driver

Reimagined and reengineered from the ground up, the 2022 Toyota Tundra has a lot of new things about it, but the tried-and-true Toyota dedication to safety is still there, as well as the incredible build quality and reliability. The 2022 Toyota Tundra is simply a better version of what was available before.
