2022 Nissan Frontier
But What Do The Experts Think? (+video)

What is it?

A compact pickup truck with different bed and cabin configurations available.

“While the 2022 model looks, feels, and drives completely differently from the 2021 model, it still rides on the same platform as that previous-generation truck, albeit an extensively modified version.

Old bones or not, it’s nearly impossible to confuse the 2022 model year Frontier with the old truck. Updated styling, an enhanced powertrain, a comfortable cabin, and real off-road capability combine to give it a notable advantage against a set of aging competitors from Ford, General Motors, and Toyota” -cargurus.com

How’s it look?

“It’s bigger, chunkier and longer, yet the Frontier doesn’t have a bigger footprint than it did before. Nissan kept the old truck’s tidy overall dimensions, which was what buyers said they wanted: A truck good for work and play that fits in a garage and can be easily parked in congested urban areas” – cars.com

What about the inside?

“On the inside, the ‘22 Frontier bears no resemblance to that of its predecessor, which aged out a decade ago. Gone are acres of cheap plastic, a tiny infotainment screen and spindly shifter, and in their place is a handsome cabin with a new multifunction steering wheel, an available 9.0-inch colour multimedia touchscreen (a 8.0-inch unit is standard) and a new 7.0-inch advanced driver display” -autoguide.com

Is the tech any good?

“The new Frontier’s infotainment system operates through a standard 8.0-inch or optional 9.0-inch touchscreen. A pair of physical knobs for adjusting the stereo’s volume and tuning settings are present and located below the screen. The most desirable standard connectivity features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and several charging outlets that include a USB-C port. The Frontier can also be had with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging. The sound system can also be upgraded to a nine-speaker Fender unit for an additional cost” – caranddriver.com

“On the tech front, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are standard across the range, as are Bluetooth hands-free phone system, streaming audio via Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free. Other items, such as embedded navigation and Nissan Connect Wi-Fi hotspot are standard on PRO-4X. Audiophiles can also opt for a Fender Premium Audio system with 10 speakers, which is available on all grades above the S 4×4” – autoguide.com

How does it ride?

“The Frontier’s most surprising attribute was its tranquil cabin; even at highway speeds road and tire noise were almost entirely absent. Even in the Pro-4X with its all-terrain tires, the ride and noise levels were nearly luxury grade. Most trucks clomp down the road like Clydesdales but the Frontier glides. It’s a massive generational improvement for the new truck” – thecarconnection.com

Does it represent good value?

“…it’s also the best value in the segment” – roadandtrack.com

Closing thoughts:

“Forget the numbers. The real story is that the Frontier has leapfrogged the pack, going from the sloppiest ride among its peers to the most refined. Its cabin, once the most raucous and unpleasant, is now shockingly quiet at 80 mph. Compared to a Toyota Tacoma, the Frontier feels like a Lexus. More capable than the Ridgeline and more refined than anything else, durable and proven at its core, it’s a deeply charming truck wrapped in a superb design” – roadandtrack.com
