2020 Nissan Altima
Rated a Top Safety Pick+ (+video)

Top Safety Pick+
Nissan’s popular Altima sedan has also been a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick + every year since 2013 and has been awarded the IIHS award when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. The IIHS awards identify the best vehicle choices for safety within 13 vehicle size categories during a given year. Just 64 models were given the top safety designation for 2020. Last fall, the Altima was also rated a top performer in IIHS pedestrian crash prevention testing.

“Helping protect our customers while they are on the road is a key focus for all Nissan vehicles,” said Rob Warren, director, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Nissan Safety Shield 360 is a major part of that vision and we’re proud to see our vehicles recognized by IIHS against its rigorous testing criteria.”

Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Intelligent Emergency Braking. In addition to Safety Shield 360, Maxima and Altima also offer available Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR). Nissan’s innovative Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) technology is standard on all grade levels.

Standard All-Wheel Drive
In response to the desires of buyers in Canada, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive will continue to be offered on the Altima, and fitted as standard equipment on all models.

The system uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically redistributes torque to the wheels (0:100 front up to 50:50 front-to-rear) according to road and driving conditions. In addition, cooperative control between the AWD torque distribution, brake limited-slip differential and Hill Start Assist optimizes performance on hills starts and rough roads – adding to the sense of confidence and driving pleasure under a range of driving scenarios.

But What Do the Experts Think?
But the Altima has much more going for it as well. Just consider how these automotive journalists feel about Nissan’s handsome and capable Altima:

  • autotrader.ca
“Offered with standard all-wheel-drive in Canada, it’s one of the relatively few non-SUV choices for those who want their power delivered to both axles”
  • jdpower.com
“The Altima stands ready to serve SUV defectors looking for a more affordable and nearly as practical a mode of transportation”
  • edmunds.com
“Redesigned last year, the Nissan Altima features bold changes that vault it back among today’s front-running family sedans. Always competent and capable, Nissan’s mid-sizer has long lingered in the shadows of the big sellers from Honda and Toyota. But the 2020 Nissan Altima reasserts itself with improved performance, sophisticated technology and impressive comfort”

  • thecarconnection.com
“The 2020 Altima is generous with interior room, but frugal with fuel. Just like it should be”
  • caranddriver.com
“The new-and-improved Altima has the goods to contend with the best family sedans”

And there you have it. The 2020 Nissan Altima is famous and well-liked for its style, frugality at the pump, roominess, ride and, of course, impressive safety technology.
