Part of the fun of making Halloween treats is the chance to get creative with spooky and seasonal motifs. These three creep-tastic recipes are entertaining to make and even more enjoyable to eat.

Eyeball Cake Bites

Get into the spirit of the holiday with these creepy eyeball cake bites! No one can resist their gaze.

Ingredients

  • Box of cake mix and necessary ingredients
  • 12-ounce can of frosting
  • 12 ounces of white chocolate melting wafers
  • Colourful gel icing

Instructions

1. Prepare the cake according to the box instructions. Let it cool.

2. Crumble the cake into a large bowl and combine with the frosting until fully coated.

3. Roll the mixture into eyeball sizes and place them in the freezer on a parchment-lined baking sheet for about an hour.

4. Melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.

5. Roll the cake balls in the white chocolate until fully covered. Let the chocolate set.

6. Use gel icing to add eyeball features like a cornea, pupil, and red veins.

Spooky Ghost Cookies

Take your tulip cookie cutter, turn it upside down, and you’ve got a ready-made ghost cookie cutter instead.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon corn syrup
  • 12 ounces mini chocolate chip

Instructions

1. Beat the butter in a bowl until creamy. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups of confectioners’ sugar, beating until fluffy. Add the egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

2. In a second bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Pour the mixture into the first bowl and mix. Chill in the refrigerator for an hour.

3. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Roll out the dough and cut out the tulip shapes. Place the cookies on a baking sheet.

4. Bake until lightly browned, for 7 or 8 minutes. Let cool.

5. Combine 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar and milk. Beat in 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

6. Transfer the mixture into a piping bag and cover the tops of the cookies. Use mini chocolate chips for the eyes.

Rice Krispies Jack-O-Lanterns

A classic treat with a twist, these jack-o-lanterns will snap, cackle, and pop while you munch on them. All you need is a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 6 cups mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • Green food colouring
  • Orange food colouring
  • Candy corn

Instructions

1. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan. Stir in 4 cups of marshmallows and orange food colouring. Heat until marshmallows are melted, then add 4 cups of Rice Krispies and combine.

2. Repeat step 1 in a separate saucepan with 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 cups of marshmallows, green food colouring, and 2 cups of Rice Krispies.

3. Coat a baking sheet with non-stick spray and press the two mixtures into the pan, alternating thin green stripes and thicker orange stripes.

4. Cut out the pumpkin shapes so that the top third of the jack-o-lantern is green and the bottom is orange. Use candy corn for the eyes.
