Cold Days, Hot Eats
Top Winter Food Festivals Across Canada

One of the best ways to break up the cold monotony of winter is with delicious food, and Canada has some excellent winter food festivals to enjoy during the cold months.

The winter chill may stick around for a while, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up inside. Make the most of the season with a food festival that gets you out of the house. If you’re looking for something fun to do and something delicious to try, then don’t miss the season’s hottest eats.

Niagara Icewine Festival (Jan. 13 to 29)

Icewine is the star of the show every January in Niagara. Celebrate this sweet dessert wine at several events around Niagara over the duration of the festival, starting with the farm-to-table fare and wine pairings at the Cool as Ice Gala. Starting on the 20th, historic Queen Street also transforms into a winter wonderland of wine, food, music, shopping, and ice sculptures.

Dine Out Vancouver (Jan. 20 to Feb. 5)

Another of Canada’s largest winter food festivals, Dine Out Vancouver encourages the community to head out and support local restaurants during a typically slower time of year. Hundreds of participating restaurants will offer multi-course dinners between $20 and $65. Venues include fine dining restaurants, family-friendly spots, and every type of restaurant in between. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time.

Winterlicious, Toronto (Jan. 27 to Feb. 9)

After a two-year hiatus, Winterlicious — the premier winter food event in Toronto — is back. More than 200 restaurants are set to participate by providing diners with a prix fixe menu of their best offerings. The Toronto food scene is one of the most diverse and vibrant in Canada, ensuring that you never run out of new dishes and tastes to try.

Québec Winter Carnival (Feb. 3-12)

Though the Québec Winter Carnival (widely known as Carnaval) is not solely a culinary event, food plays a major role in the festivities. Now in its 69th year, the Quebec City carnival is known for offering an array of indulgent food and drink for festivalgoers to try. Some of the most highly recommended bites you can’t miss include sticky maple taffy, fried beaver tails, and deep-fried smores.

Jasper Beer & Spirits Festival (Feb. 10-12)

The Jasper Beer & Spirits Festival in the beautiful Alberta Rockies is a celebration of some of the best locally crafted beer and spirits in town. Back for its fourth year, this weekend-long festival is about taking in the views, enjoying cozy accommodations, attending fun seminars, and sampling beer and spirits with delicious food pairings.

Winefest, Calgary (Feb. 17 & 18) and Edmonton (Feb. 24 & 25)

Alberta’s Winefest, which takes place in both Calgary and Edmonton, is one of the top wine events not only of the season but of the year. A true experience for the tastebuds, Winefest welcomes hundreds of wineries to showcase more than 300 of their finest wines. Each one is paired perfectly with a selection of decadent bites.

This winter, celebrate and unwind at a fun foodie event. There’s no reason to dislike the season that offers some of the best festivals of the calendar year!
