2021 Honda Insight
The Power of Electric Dreams (+video)

Let’s start with the basics: what is it?

  • The Honda Insight is a hybrid (sedan) with great fuel economy that looks and drives mostly like a conventional compact sedan. It shares many components with the popular Honda Civic sedan, and delivers a similarly pleasant driving experience and roomy, practical interior. The crucial difference is the Insight’s combination of a gasoline engine and electric motors, which supply power in a non-traditional way in the name of efficiency. – Car&Driver

The 2021 Honda Insight will arrive with the newly available blind spot information (BSI) with Cross Traffic Monitor along with a new exterior colour—Radiant Red Metallic. With best-in-class passenger space, upscale interior appointments and a refined driving experience, the 2021 Insight is a premium compact sedan with impressive mileage.

  • The 2021 Insight is among the safest cars on the road. Safety officials from the federal government and IIHS give it a spotless report, and it’s one of few cars on the road that have aced every available test.

The Honda Insight, with standard Honda Sensing® technology, is the only compact hybrid sedan to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for 2020. Also, the Insight recently received a top-five green score from the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), beating out multiple plug-in and battery electric vehicles.

Sounds great so far, but what about the interior?

  • Because the Insight is based on the Civic platform, it enjoys a useful amount of passenger space for a compact car. Placing the battery pack beneath the rear seats not only keeps the car’s centre of gravity low (an asset for handling), it also enables them to split and fold (in EX and Touring trims). This brings extra cargo-carrying flexibility that’s already impressive thanks to a roomy trunk measuring 15.1 cubic feet. That’s as good as some midsize sedans. – Kelly Blue Book

For 2021, all Insights now come standard with multi-element LED headlights, push-button start, and the Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Changes for 2021 are few, but Insight’s focus remains the same: efficiency in every sense of the word.

  • The 2021 Insight is among the most fuel-efficient vehicles on sale today.
    6/5.3/4.9 L/100 km (City/Hwy/Combined) fuel economy

This sounds all well and good, but …. maybe you’ve never owned a hybrid-electric vehicle before. Maybe it sounds complicated and all you want to do is get in and drive. Do you have to plus the Insight in to refuel it?

  • Though the Insight supplements its gasoline engine with an onboard electric motor, there is no need to plug the car in. The onboard lithium-ion battery charges during regular everyday driving. What we like:
  • Outstanding fuel economy
  • Attractive styling
  • Excellent Honda Sensing safety suite
  • No need to plug it in

There you have it. Owning a hybrid-electric vehicle isn’t complicated at all. Quite the opposite, actually. All you do is get in and drive, just like any other traditional gasoline-powered vehicle. You still visit gas stations to fuel up an Insight of course, but you’ll be making fuel stops much less frequently!
