Most Anticipated Titles Coming to the Big Screen

All of the biggest studios have major, big-budget films slated for release this year. There are several hotly anticipated sequels in the works but plenty of original films as well. Here is a look at eight upcoming movies to keep your eye on.

Mulan (March 27)

Disney has long tried to get a live-action Mulan film based on its 1998 animated movie off the ground. The wait is finally over, and Mulan will hit theatres next month. The film is about a young Chinese woman, played by Liu Yifei, who takes her father’s place in a war by disguising herself as a male warrior.

Black Widow (May 1)

Another long-anticipated film, Black Widow follows Natasha Romanoff during events that took place between the films Civil War and Infinity War. Scarlett Johansson is reprising her role as the eponymous character, and the movie will also star David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh. Black Widow will be the first film in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Legally Blonde 3 (May 8)

Reese Witherspoon is coming back to the big screen as Elle Woods in this newest instalment of the Legally Blonde series. Not much is known about the plot of Legally Blonde 3 yet, but it’s sure to once again be a funny and poignant take on women rising to the occasion and surpassing expectations.

Fast & Furious 9 (May 22)

The ninth instalment in the wildly successful Fast and Furious series is also sparse on details so far, but we do know that several big names are reprising their roles. Fast & Furious 9 will star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren. Fast & Furious 10 has already been announced as well.

Wonder Woman 1984 (June 5)

A sequel to the 2017 film, Wonder Woman 1984 is once again going to star Gal Gadot as DC Comics’ main female superhero, with Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nelson in supporting roles. The plot will revolve around the DC characters Maxwell Lord and Cheetah.

The Eternals (November 6)

Marvel’s next main saga is set to tell the story of the Eternals, a race of immortals created by beings known as the Celestials who once lived on earth. The first film in the series will star Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, and Kit Harington.

Godzilla vs. Kong (November 20)

The fourth film in Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse and the direct sequel to 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong will let the audience watch these two iconic characters battle it out for the title of King of the Monsters. Meanwhile, a conspiracy threatens the existence of all of the monsters, both good and bad.

Dune (December 18)

Dune is the first film in a planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. Set in the far future, it is centred on a noble family that takes stewardship of a desert planet which is home to a valuable element. The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

With so many great films hitting the big screen in 2020, you’ll have plenty of options for movie night. Whether you like superhero movies, action flicks, or comedies, there is going to be something for you to enjoy.
