Safety is at the core of everything Volvo does. Since the company’s inception in 1927, the brand has earned a reputation as one of the leaders in automotive safety. Volvo has introduced numerous world-firsts in the area of automotive safety, most famously the three-point safety belt. In recent years, Volvo has been a leader in active safety technologies, such as their award-winning City Safety system, standard on all new Volvos.
The latest generation of Volvo vehicles, based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), are full of industry-leading safety technologies which push Volvo further towards their industry-leading safety vision: no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. As part of the company’s focus on safety, Volvo Cars has also focused on driver behaviour to tackle the problems of speeding, intoxication and distraction.
The focus Volvo Cars puts on safety systems as standard, including forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, combined with advanced pedestrian and cyclist collision prevention, sets the company apart. Volvo has made these systems standard on all vehicles for several years, while many competitors continue to offer some of these features as options.
“Regardless of body style, engine or trim, every Volvo offers innovative protection in a crash.” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “We are proud that IIHS has recognized this by awarding a Top Safety Pick Plus to every vehicle we produce today. No other company has been awarded this honour across all carlines in 2021.”
