Best Ghost Walks and Tours in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotians love their ghost stories, and there are all sorts of scary ghost walks throughout the province, some that even operate year-round. The best time to take these tours is, of course, during the month of October. Here are five of the best ghostly experiences to check out during the spookiest time of year.

The Halifax Ghost Walk

Considered to be the oldest ghost walk in North America, the Halifax Ghost Walk takes participants on a nighttime tour through the city’s historic downtown, to some of its most haunted and eerie sites. The walk takes place throughout October, with tours held on each night of the week leading up to Halloween. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Each tour begins at 8:30 from the Town Clock at Citadel Hill.

Halifax Citadel Ghost Tour

The Halifax Citadel is a National Historic Site with its fair share of ghost stories and unexplained occurrences. You can take a nighttime tour throughout the citadel, into its dark tunnels and spooky prison cells. Tours are offered every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening at 8:30 pm, departing from the front entrance kiosk. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $8 for youth. A $35 family pass for two adults and two youth is also available.

The Haunted Hollow of Hammonds Plains

The wooded area behind 1561 Hammonds Plains Road transforms into a terrifying graveyard for the season, full of ghosts, ghouls, and demons that are waiting behind the dark trees for their victims. Haunted Hollow takes place every Friday and Saturday throughout October. The gates open at 7:30 pm and tickets are sold between 6:30 pm and 9 pm. Tickets cost $15 per person, or you can purchase a $50 family pass for four people, with $10 for each additional participant.

Valley Ghost Walks

Valley Ghost Walks offer a number of different tours throughout the Annapolis Valley, introducing participants to the ghostly lore and legends of the area. The family-friendly tours are as educational as they are entertaining. This October, the ghost walks are held every Thursday in Wolfville, Windsor, or Kentville, with an additional walk on Wednesday, October 30th. Each ghost walk begins at 7:30 pm. The cost is $20 for adults and $16 for students and seniors.

Riverbreeze Haunted Houses and Corn Mazes

Riverbreeze Farms has earned a reputation of hosting the scariest haunted attractions in the province. Two haunted corn mazes and four haunted houses welcome those who are looking for a real fright. The attractions are open every Friday and Saturday all October long from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Note that the ticket booth will close at 9:30 pm. Ticket options include a $25 Regular Combo ticket which grants access to three attractions or a $30 Super Combo ticket which grants access to all six attractions.

Sometimes, a good scare can actually be a lot of fun, especially when you experience it with friends and family. If you’re feeling brave this Halloween, then come see how you fare on a ghostly tour or in a terrifying haunted house.
