2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB
A New Compact 7-Seater Changes the Game (+ video)

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is a versatile SUV with off-road-oriented design and standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. As the first Mercedes-Benz in the compact segment available as a seven-seater, it is also a spacious family car with two optional third row seats that fit passengers up to 1.68 metres in height.

With a powerful and efficient four-cylinder engine, advanced driving assistance systems, and the intuitively operable infotainment system MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), the new Mercedes-Benz GLB has all the strengths of the current compact-class generation from Mercedes-Benz.

In the five-seater configuration, the load compartment has a capacity of 560 to 1755 litres. The optional third row seating, adjustable seating and backrest inclination allow the load compartment to be as large as 179 litres.

Ready for boarding: Up to seven seats

The GLB is the first compact vehicle from Mercedes-Benz to offer an optional third row of seats. The two optional third row spots seat passengers as tall as 1.68 metres comfortably.

The exterior design: Off-road character

The powerful proportions of the GLB underscore its off-road character. The upright front section with its striking headlamps and the short overhangs at the front and rear, are clear markers of the vehicle’s off-road genes.

Interior design with aluminium details

The GLB’s instrument panel consists of a single piece, which has optical cut-outs in the driver and front passenger area. The driver faces a widescreen cockpit, with control and display via MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience).

Advanced lighting

LED High-Performance headlamps are standard on the GLB and MULTIBEAM LED headlamps are available as an option. The optional MULTIBEAM LED headlamps allow for extremely quick and precise, electronically controlled adjustment of the headlamps to suit traffic conditions.

The GLB also has standard front fog lamps with LED technology. These fog lamps distribute light more widely than the main headlamps and thus illuminate peripheral areas better. Their low position in the front bumper helps reduce the risk of the light distracting on-coming vehicles.

The technical details

The GLB benefits from the technical highlights of the current compact-class generation from Mercedes-Benz, including:

  • The new four-cylinder gasoline engine, which was completely updated to relaunch the compact model series. Compared to the previous generation, this engine excels with considerably increased outputs, improved efficiency and lower emissions.
  • The driving assistance systems with cooperative support for the driver and functionality from the S-Class. Thanks to improved camera and radar systems, the GLB can view up to 500 metres ahead and can drive partially autonomously in certain situations.
  • The comfort suspension. The front of the GLB features McPherson suspension struts. At the rear, it has an acoustically and vibrationally decoupled multi-link axle with compression springs.
  • The intuitively operated infotainment system MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). Key features of the system include: its powerful computer, brilliant screens and graphics, all-colour head-up display, Augmented Reality navigation, learning-capable software and voice control that is activated by the phrase “Hey Mercedes”.

4MATIC all-wheel drive

As standard, the GLB comes equipped with 4MATIC, with fully-variable torque distribution. This sporty all-wheel-drive configuration allows the driver to use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to influence the characteristics of 4MATIC.
