The exterior design of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe is the embodiment of hallmark AMG Driving Performance. As a result of the AMG-specific radiator grille, membership of the AMG model family is obvious from the first glance.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe offers tangibly more room than its predecessor and gives up to five occupants a much more comfortable amount of space. The trunk is already generous in its current state with 655-litre capacity and can conceal its load beneath a high-quality, folding and removable cover. The backrest of the rear seats, which folds in a ratio of 40:20:40, increases the trunk capacity to up to 1790 litres – 70 litres more than in the predecessor, and a best in this segment.

The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with a particularly sporty spring/damper setup and the adaptive adjustable ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) ensures a combination of outstanding driving dynamics and a high level of ride comfort. The damping characteristics can be preselected in three modes: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+”, allowing a significantly more noticeable differentiation between excellent long-distance comfort and sporty driving dynamics. In addition, there are two new levels for off-road use: “Trail” and “Sand”.

The basis for the hallmark AMG vehicle dynamics of the GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe is provided by the electrified 3.0-litre engine with twin-turbocharging via a turbocharger and electric auxiliary compressor. The 6-cylinder in-line engine generates 429 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 384 lb-ft. An EQ Boost starter-alternator delivers an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque for a short period and also feeds the 48-volt onboard electrical system.

Without delay, the electric auxiliary compressor builds up a high level of boost pressure until the large exhaust gas turbocharger kicks in. As a result, the 3.0-litre engine reacts extremely spontaneously and provides a dynamic response without turbo lag. An additional bonus is the high level of refinement of the in-line six-cylinder engine.

The EQ Boost starter-alternator is a key component of the 48 V system of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 4MATIC+ Coupe. Not only does it serve as an alternator, it is also responsible for hybrid functions. This allows for fuel savings that were previously reserved for high-voltage hybrid technology found in other vehicles. For the first time, the EQ Boost starter-alternator is also responsible for idle speed control.

For maximum traction, the new GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe is equipped with fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. Intelligent steering variably links the permanently driven rear axle with the front axle and continually calculates the optimum torque distribution, depending on the driving situation and the driver’s intention.

The GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe has seven drive programs. The levels “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+” and “Individual” are complemented by two off-road-specific settings: “Trail” and “Sand”. AMG DYNAMIC SELECT adapts important parameters such as the responsiveness of the engine and transmission, the characteristic curve of the accelerator and steering, the suspension damping and on rare occasions, the vehicle’s sound.

MBUX is included as standard in the GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe and comes with AMG-specific content. Within the widescreen cockpit, the instrument cluster and touchscreen multimedia display are combined into one unit. Numerous functions can be activated via the intelligent voice-operated control called “Hey Mercedes”.
