Exploring Your Family Minivan Options

Built to a sizable minivan design, it’s nonetheless an attractive vehicle that leans more toward SUV stylings than the traditional bulky people-carrier profile. With up to 3,984L of cargo space available through flexible seating configurations, it’s also an immensely practical vehicle with various versatile uses.

For 2023, the Odyssey is available in four trim variations, and here’s how to choose between them.

2023 Honda Odyssey EX

Even at the base EX level, the Odyssey offers an enticing set of features and capabilities. Power is provided by a 3.5L V6 gas engine making 280 horsepower and 262lb-ft of torque, an ample amount to propel the sizable body confidently. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard along with front-wheel drive, combining to deliver a smooth ride at a frugal fuel economy of just 10.6L / 100km combined.

Move to the interior, and the first thing you’ll notice is the sheer roominess of the cabin. Unlike many SUVs where the third row is little more than an afterthought, the Odyssey’s rearmost seats are just as comfortable as the rest. The front row is heated, while the second row has a ‘Magic Slide’ system that moves the seats forward for easier access to the third row behind.

A touchscreen-controlled infotainment system offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth streaming as standard, complemented by a rear-seat entertainment system that boasts an integrated 10.2-inch high-resolution display with Blu-Ray compatibility.

Reassuringly for a family vehicle, the Odyssey offers a generous suite of active safety and driver-assist technologies even at the entry level, with key features including:
– Forward-collision warnings and automatic braking mitigation
– Lane-departure warnings with lane-keep assist
– Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts
– Road-departure mitigation system
– Traffic-sign recognition

Odyssey EX-L

The EX-L trim offers several exterior enhancements, including upgraded two-tone wheels, body-coloured front and rear parking sensors, and a power tailgate with adjustable height control.

Inside the cabin, an extra 12V power outlet is added in the second row, joined by an additional USB port in the third row. The adjustable driver’s seat receives memory recall, the front passenger seat has extended power adjustment, and the seating throughout is upgraded with leather-trimmed surfaces.

Odyssey Touring

Moving up to the Touring trim brings extra interior comforts, including ventilated front seats and ambient lighting, as well as more tech in the form of a Wi-Fi hotspot facility, wireless charging, and navigation with bilingual voice recognition.

Music fans will enjoy the 550-watt sound system with 11 speakers, including subwoofer, which replaces the standard seven-speaker option. On the outside, the wheels are upgraded to 19-inch two-tone aluminum alloy units for a more dynamic and sporty look.

Odyssey Black Edition

Lastly, the Black Edition takes the Touring trim and adds several cosmetic features, including a gloss black rear spoiler, black 19-inch wheels, body-coloured door handles, and soft red ambient lighting to give the Odyssey an upscale and moody character.
