Introducing the All-New GLE 450e
4MATIC SUV Arriving this Year

A new plug-in hybrid from Mercedes-Benz will be available soon. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV will hit the Canadian market in the last quarter of 2023, the automaker recently stated in a press release.

The new car comes with some impressive specs. Mercedes says that the GLE 450e 4MATIC combines a 134 hp electric motor with a conventional engine, delivering 381 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque in total. Owners can enjoy superior acceleration and range on the road, switching between fuel and electric mode on the fly, whether in urban areas, on the highway, or adventuring off-road. Drivers will also get 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC onboard chargers for rapid battery replenishment at home or on the go.

Mercedes confirms the GLE 450e 4MATIC will have the same features and options as the GLE 450 4MATIC SUV. Highlights include a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, upgraded Mercedes MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, transparent Engine Hood and Burmester Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos. The German automaker is also promising adaptive high beam assist, heated rear seats, a 360° camera as standard, and its MBUX Navigation Premium system.

Three equipment trims will be available on the GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV: Premium (standard), Exclusive, and Pinnacle, based on drivers’ preferences. You can also customize vehicles with AMG Line on the interior and exterior and a night package for even better looks while cruising through the city at night. Wheel, paint, and upholstery options will be available, as on other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the two gas-only alternatives available: the GLE 350 4MATIC, producing 255 bhp and the GLE 450 4MATIC, which can generate 375 bhp.

The enhancements of the new vehicle over the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV – the year the current model debuted – are considerable. Exterior and interior design has been refined, and the technology and equipment are upgraded. The new GLE 450e 4MATIC also has a plug-in hybrid with Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) for convenience and reliability.

Spiritually, the GLE is the successor of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, which first started rolling off the production lines in 1997 and effectively created the SUV segment. The 2023 GLE builds on a rich pedigree and continues the success of the GLE line, launched in 2015.

Mercedes-Benz continues to keep quality high, manufacturing vehicles at its Tuscaloosa plant in the U.S. The 2024 GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV will be the second PHEV vehicle from the brand available in Canada after the introduction of the 2023 S 580e Sedan last year.
