With summer in full swing, watching a movie in the cool theatre or streaming it in your air-conditioned home is no doubt an appealing activity. Well, you’re in luck, because summer 2022 is starting to deliver on its promise of a stellar lineup of films that will keep you entertained during those hot days. Here are six of the most anticipated films to catch over the next few months.

Lightyear (June 17)

Lightyear is a Toy Story spinoff that tells the tale of the real Space Ranger who inspired the Buzz Lightyear action figure. Fresh off his role as Captain America in the Marvel universe, Chris Evans lends his voice to the famed astronaut. He is joined by James Brolin, Uzo Aduba, Keke Palmer, and Taika Waititi. This prequel will delve into what it is that made Buzz so famous.

Minions: The Rise of Gru (July 1)

Another prequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru gives viewers the origin story of the villain hero of the Despicable Me franchise. This film also acts as a prequel to 2015’s Minions movie. See how Gru joins the world of villainy and what the hilarious minions had to do with it. The star-studded cast includes Diana Ross, Brittany Howard, Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridges, and of course, Steve Carell.

Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8)

This sequel to the wildly popular Thor: Ragnarok installment follows everyone’s favourite Norse god as he searches for his place in the universe. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role and Natalie Portman also returns as Jane Foster, who at some point will be wielding Thor’s hammer. Thor: Love and Thunder also sees Thor teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to battle the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale.

The Gray Man (July 15)

In The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling plays CIA assassin Court Gentry who needs to go on the run after discovering a dark agency secret. He is chased down by Lloyd Hansen, who is played by Chris Evans sporting a new moustache. This action-thriller is the latest from the Russo Brothers, who were at the helm of Avengers: Endgame. The film also features Ana de Armas and Billy Bob Thornton.

Nope (July 22)

Jordan Peele returns to the big screen to follow up the success of Get Out with Nope, a sci-fi thriller that will have you looking nervously into the sky. He once again casts Daniel Kaluuya in the leading role, who is joined by Keke Palmer. The film tells the story of a rural ranch that suddenly has to contend with mysterious happenings and beings from… elsewhere.

Bullet Train (August 5)

Brad Pitt graces the screen in this action-comedy based on a 2021 novel of the same name. Bullet Train follows an assassin (Pitt) who is looking to steal a briefcase from a Japanese bullet train–but he’s not the only one. Characters played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, and Brian Tyree Henry pop up to complicate the seemingly simple task.
