The TADA has done an excellent job in this area over the past decade, and that work is ongoing. However, for all of the information and resources available about auto careers, it’s incredible how outdated public perceptions are about our industry.
As well as auto technicians and salespeople, diverse careers exist within a dealership in areas of accounting, human resources, digital marketing, collision repairs, parts, detailing and more.
One of the ways the TADA promotes education and careers is with scholarships, bursaries and awards for students attending post-secondary schools, including the Northern College, Automotive Business School of Canada at Georgian College, Centennial College, Algonquin College, Conestoga College and Durham College.
At Brantford Honda, we have worked with guidance and shop teachers for many years, to offer work experience during the school year and paid internships over the summer. If eligible, they can then enroll in the Honda/Centennial Apprenticeship Program, and be fully productive within 36 months.
Honda Canada partnered with Centennial College some 25 years ago, and many of our technicians graduated from the Honda Program.
At Brantford Honda, we also have a very successful sales training program, Resulting in low turnover and greater customer satisfaction. We have promoted from within for 30+ years and many of our managers are now partners in other dealerships in our group.
