Toyota Safety Technologies
The Goal: A World Without Accidents

Parking

Take the guesswork out of backing in and backing up, thanks to technologies that increase your field of vision. Toyota has developed Backup Camera with On-Screen Guidelines for backing into parking spaces, a Rear Cross Traffic Alert system that warns of approaching vehicles when backing up and Intelligent Parking Assist that can park a vehicle virtually unassisted.

Active Safety

Active safety technologies are designed to help when the unexpected happens. Blind Spot Monitor and Lane Keep Assist sound alerts to warn you of hidden danger. Traction Control helps you traverse wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces. Vehicle Stability Control helps prevent tire slip by reducing engine power and applying necessary brake force automatically. Anti-lock Brakes prevent skids during sudden stops by applying “pulsing” brake pressure. Electronic Brake Distribution enhances stability during braking, while Brake Assist detects sudden braking and adds full pressure to prevent a collision. Other technologies like Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, are so advanced that they will anticipate your intentions and then automatically activate a variety of safety systems to ensure the highest possible level of vehicle control and stability.

Pre-Crash Safety

Sometimes accidents are unavoidable, but Toyota has developed technologies that can actually predict the likelihood of a collision, take steps to reduce damage and injury, and in some situations, help avoid an accident altogether. Pre-Collision System warns when an obstacle is detected by radar, then automatically apply brakes to reduce the severity of impact and tighten seatbelts to help protect occupants.

Passive Safety

From Airbags to Impact-Absorbing Body Structures that channel impact energy away from the cabin, Toyota vehicles are loaded with passive safety measures. They’ve even designed headrests and driver and passenger seats that help reduce impact effects such as whiplash.

Toyota’s latest technology is called Toyota Safety Sense; an advanced suite of safety features that is now available on virtually all of the vehicles they produce. TSS is available in two packages:

TSS-C

Toyota Safety Sense C includes:

  • Pre-Collision (PCS) which provides collision avoidance or collision mitigation support in speed ranges where frontal collisions are likely to occur.
  • Lane Departure Alert (LDA) that warns you if you start to drift out of your lane when visible lane markings are detected.
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB) that detect oncoming and preceding vehicles’ lights. Depending upon the circumstances, Automatic High Beam (AHB) can switch between high and low beams for you.

TSS-P

Toyota Safety Sense P comes with Automatic High Beam, Lane Departure Alert, Pre-collision System and even more advanced features like:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) In certain conditions, the PCS w/PD) may also help to detect pedestrians and help prevent or mitigate a collision.
  • Lane Departure Alert w. Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) Alerts you if you start to drift out of your lane when visible lane markings are detected. On some models with TSS-P, the Steering Assist function may also provide small corrective steering inputs.
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) Uses forward sensing radar technology to adjust vehicle speed to help maintain a preset following distance between you and the vehicle directly in front of you.
