Tips for a Pandemic-Friendly Spring Break

It’s the second spring since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and, while a lot has changed over the year, the pandemic is still a major factor to account for in your spring break plans.

With spring in full swing, you are likely looking forward to a much-needed vacation. Unfortunately, you still have to be mindful of social distancing and other precautions to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some time away from work and out of the house. Consider these pandemic-friendly spring break suggestions.

Take a Road Trip

If you want to take a vacation away from home, then the best way to do it is to go on a road trip. Travelling in your own car limits interactions with others and makes it easy to choose less crowded stops. RV travel is a particularly good option during these times, as it means you won’t have to check into any hotels along the way. Plus, you can bring along any technology you need to stay connected, potentially prolonging the time you can spend on the road.

Keep to Your Household

Whether you are travelling in an RV, booking a hotel room, or renting a cabin, you should limit your travel group to members of your household or your immediate pandemic bubble. Since all of these options require close and prolonged contact with your travel companions, make sure you meet provincial regulations for indoor social gatherings.

Weigh Your Dining Options

When out on the road or staying at a hotel, you’ll need to plan your meals. Since indoor dining is not recommended, consider bringing along or cooking your own food. You can prep several meals ahead of time at home or book accommodations that come with a kitchen. Takeout or delivery are good options as well, and you’ll be helping to support local businesses at the same time.

Consider Staying at a Motel

The motel design has a lot of pandemic perks. You can directly access your room without having to go through any common areas, and you’ll have an easier time ordering food delivery as well. After check-in, you likely won’t have to interact with motel staff or with anyone outside of your travel bubble at all! When booking accommodations, it’s definitely worth it to consider a motel.

Stick Close to Home

If you are trying to stay as safe as possible or you don’t want to worry too much about pandemic restrictions, then it is best to keep close to home. Take some fun outdoor trips to local parks or nearby and less crowded provincial parks. You can go on walks and hikes, have a picnic, fly a kite, or even get into activities like Geocaching. Plan your schedule ahead of time to ensure that you don’t just end up staying at home!

Even in these unique times, there are a lot of ways you can enjoy a refreshing spring break that gets you and your family out of the house and into the nice weather. All it takes is a bit of extra planning and forethought.
