After a long, cold, and wet winter, many people are eager to welcome the warmer days of spring. Celebrate the coming season in 1920’s style at the Burnaby Village Museum’s Spring Break opening.

The Burnaby Village Museum is a reconstructed 1920s village complete with heritage buildings and costumed townsfolk eager to give historic demonstrations. Spring Break season at the museum runs from March 19th to March 29th. The museum will be open daily from 11 am to 4:30 pm with no gate admission costs. Visitors can come have a look around and participate in the spring break activities completely for free. Just make sure to bring some spare change for a carousel ride, which costs $2.65 per person.

Spring Break at the Burnaby Village Museum provides a great opportunity to step back in time and learn about the history of the area. You can explore the old-timey shops and businesses to get an idea of how people used to go about their daily lives. There’s even a one-room heritage schoolhouse where children of all grades and ages used to receive their lessons together. Additionally, there are many special activities taking place at the museum during the Spring Break season.

Every day, visitors can watch heritage demonstrations at the blacksmith’s forge, the printshop, and the general store. You can also stop by the one-room schoolhouse to have a chat with the teacher when class is not in session. Movie buffs will love to check out a silent, black and white movie playing in the village while train buffs will enjoy exploring the museum’s restored Interurban tram. Stop by on opening day for all-day crimp, curl, and cut demonstrations at the Tinsmith, or visit the schoolhouse on the 19th, 23rd, and 25th at noon or 3 pm to experience a 1920s class. Beginning on the 20th, every other day at the museum will feature steam demos. There are also a few two-day events that you may want to attend, including all-day butter making on the 21st and 28th and all-day shaves at the barbershop on the 23rd and 25th.

You can truly make the most of your visit by purchasing either an Adventure Guide for $6 or an all-new Village Adventure Pack for $19.50. The 24-page adventure guide leads explorers through various crafts, puzzles, and activities throughout the village. One free carousel ride is also included in the price of the guide. The Adventure Pack provides even more opportunities to take part in creative activities around the village. It also includes a canvas adventure bag, a reusable water bottle, two free carousel rides, a carousel magnet, and a large ice cream cone from the village’s Ice Cream Parlour. The guides are recommended for ages eight and up, or for children ages five and up who are accompanied by an adult.
