3 Effective Skincare Products You Can Make at Home

Quality skincare products don’t usually come cheap. The good news is that you can save some money and get glowing skin by making a few of your own skincare products at home.

These natural and effective products can be made from ingredients that you likely have at home or that you’ll easily be able to find during a quick trip to the store. With just a few simple ingredients and only minutes of your time, you can create your own, homemade exfoliating scrub, hydrating face mask, and invigorating toner.

Olive Oil and Sugar Face Scrub

This simple, two-ingredient olive oil and sugar scrub is the perfect solution for dry skin. The sugar will exfoliate the skin by gently scrubbing away dirt and dead cells while the olive oil will provide deep moisturization. White sugar will work well for most people but brown sugar, because it has smaller granules, may be a better option if you have particularly sensitive skin.

To make the scrub, begin by adding the desired amount of sugar into a small container, but don’t fill the container more than halfway. Then, add some olive oil and stir the mixture together. Once stirred, test the scrub with your fingers. If it feels too grainy, add more olive oil. If you’ve added too much oil, simply add more sugar. There is no need to refrigerate your scrub, just keep it stored in a cool, dry place.

To use the scrub, massage it onto your face with your fingers in a gentle, circular motion. Rinse your face with warm water when you are done. Consider using the scrub in the shower, as the warm water will open up your pores and the olive oil will be easier to rinse off.

Honey and Greek Yogurt Face Mask

The probiotics found in Greek yogurt are not only great for your digestive health but for promoting healthy, glowing, and blemish-free skin as well. Greek yogurt also contains lactic acid which provides gentle exfoliation. Honey is likewise good for the skin because of its antimicrobial, antioxidant, and hydrating properties.

To make this face mask, simply combine two tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt with about two teaspoons of honey. Mix well until the two ingredients have fully combined to form a paste. Apply the mask liberally to your face and even to your neck with your fingers, and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Thyme and Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

Complete your array of homemade skincare products with a refreshing toner that uses thyme to fight acne and promote a clear complexion. You can apply this toner nightly with a cotton pad.

To make the toner, start by filling a glass jar with half a cup of apple cider vinegar. Place the jar in a bowl of hot water for about four minutes in order to warm it up. Next, add three tablespoons of dried thyme into the apple cider vinegar and let the mixture sit. After two to three hours, cover the top of the jar with cheesecloth and pour the liquid into a glass container. You can use a strainer as well, but cheesecloth might be easier to work with. Store the toner in the refrigerator.

On top of helping you save some money, you might find that these homemade skincare solutions provide even better results than store-bought skincare products you’ve used in the past. So, why not give them a try? Start off with a small batch of each to test them out, especially if you have sensitive skin. Perhaps you’ll only end up using one or two of them but, chances are, you’ll fall in love with all three.
