Craft Beer Cravings
Must-Visit Microbreweries Across Canada

It’s safe to say that craft beer is quickly becoming the new wine. Beer connoisseurs across Canada are always looking for new craft breweries to check out, and we’ve got some great suggestions right here.

From the west coast to the east coast, Canada has no shortage of microbreweries where you can order flights or pitchers of artisanal beer. If you love beer, then make sure you take the time to visit these seven breweries when you get a chance.

Spinnakers – Victoria, British Columbia

The oldest microbrewery in Canada, Spinnakers first opened its doors in 1984. Located on Victoria’s beautiful inner harbour, Spinnakers offers a first-class dining experience with a large selection of craft beers and delicious farm-to-table dishes. Spinnakers is also famous for its artisanal chocolates. If you’re a fan of both beer and chocolate, then this is the pub for you.

Yukon Brewing – Whitehorse, Yukon

If you’re looking for quality craft beer in the north, then you’ll find it at Yukon Brewing in Whitehorse. Yukon Brewing began as an idea among friends on a canoe trip two decades ago. Today, this award-winning microbrewery has struck gold by embracing its northerly location and using local ingredients to create brews such as Midnight Sun and Ice Fog.

The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company – Canmore, Alberta

There’s just something about having a beer and relaxing in the great outdoors that goes so well together. You can enjoy both at the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company, which offers spectacular views of the mountains. Schedule a tour to see how this microbrewery uses fresh mountain water to create excellent brews such as raspberry ale, malty nut browns, and light pilsners.

Half Pints Brewing Company – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Since 2006, Half Pints Brewing Company has been the premier microbrewery in Winnipeg. Over the past decade, Half Pints Brewing Company has established a solid lineup of four beers (a stout, an amber ale, a pale ale, and an IPA), as well as a variety of seasonal favourites. On Saturdays, you can take a tour to see how their howlers, growlers, bottled batches, and keg-only batches get made.

Muskoka Brewery – Muskoka, Ontario

Operating out of Ontario’s cottage country since 1996, Muskoka Brewery craft beers reflect the freshness and purity of the surrounding landscape. Muskoka Cream Ale, their original signature brew, is a favourite throughout the Muskoka region. On top of that, Muskoka Brewery now offers a full line of flavours for everyone to enjoy, including summer ales, winter stouts, and hoppy IPAs.

McAuslan Brewing – Montreal, Quebec

McAuslan Brewing Company is unique in that it was Canada’s first microbrewery to offer its beer inside of bottles. The very first beer that McAuslan Brewing Company launched back in 1989 – the St-Ambroise Pale Ale – is still one of their most popular brews today. Since then, McAuslan Brewing Company has expanded into a variety of flavours, including seasonal favourites such as their fall Spiced Pumpkin Ale and their winter Strong Ale.

Garrison Brewing Company – Halifax, Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia’s first microbrewery, Garrison Brewing Company has been bringing craft beer to the east coast since 1997. Their simple but exceptional collection features clean and crisp brews that are always full of flavour. Favourites include the Tall Ship Amber and the Irish Red Ale. Located on the Halifax Seaport, Garrison Brewing Company is housed in a beautiful mid-twentieth century building with exposed brick walls and high windows.

It’s no surprise that Canada is such a hotbed of microbreweries. Though not all stereotypes are true, the notion that Canadians love beer certainly is. The Caesar may be our national drink, but beer is almost always the beverage of choice.
