2018 Mazda3
More value-packed than ever

The 2018 Mazda3 is here. And for 2018, Mazda’s small sedan and five-door hatchback gives you more bang for your buck than ever, with more standard features and an impressive starting price of only $15,900.

All 2017 Mazdas were named top vehicle Safety Picks by the IIHS, but some of the models received the safety rating when equipped with optional safety systems. The manufacturer has decided to make vehicle safety accessible for all drivers, regardless of budget. The 2018 Mazda3 models get Smart City Brake Support as standard on the base-level model to help the driver avoid the most common type of accident, slow-speed collisions in congested urban areas.

According to Mazda, a rear-end collision is the most common type of accident. More than half occur at speeds of 30km/h or less. A laser sensor on the windshield of the Mazda3 monitors the vehicle in front and prepares the brakes to deliver maximum stopping power when the driver hits the brake. If the driver doesn’t slow down or stop, the system will automatically apply the brakes before a collision happens.

Also new for the 2018 model is the removal of previous years’ regenerative braking system tech that was borrowed from hybrid vehicles. The system made hardly any difference on fuel economy but was an expensive piece of equipment to include on a car that’s designed to be budget-conscious. Most drivers won’t even miss it.

The 2018 Mazda3 base-level GX and GS are powered by a 2.0-liter engine that rates at 155 horsepower. The engine is efficient and powers the wheels enough to get around most city environments well. Paired with the Mazda-exclusive G-Vectoring Control system that comes as standard, steering feels more responsive and precise as the system adds a small amount of weight (via light braking) to the front wheels during operation.

The G-Vectoring system does more than just enhance a driver’s confidence when steering and driving around tight corners. It also aids in making the drive less jerky and more comfortable inside for all passengers. Engineers put a lot of effort into last year’s model to improve the cabin experience by insulating the vehicle to dampen road noise. The annual small changes make the interior better each year.

For 2018, the interior of all models gets standard convenience and connectivity features like Bluetooth, a 7-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, power mirrors, power locks and windows, keyless entry and push button start.

The next trim level, the Mazda3 GS adds trim and details that give the sedan a sportier look, like 16-inch alloy wheels. A heated steering wheel and heated front seats upgrade the sports version of the sedan.

The top Mazda GT is the touring version of the sedan. It comes standard with a larger, 2.5L engine that outputs 184 horsepower. 18″ alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights and a body-colour rear spoiler give the GT a more European look.

The 2018 Mazda3 would make an excellent choice for a student on a budget. Now that it’s schooltime again, why not come visit us with your high school or college student to test-drive this value-packed compact sedan? We welcome you to visit one of our showrooms.
