5 Refreshing Summer Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are delicious any time of year, but they are particularly refreshing during hot summer months. Here are five easy smoothie recipes to make at home when the temperatures rise.

If you often make smoothies, then you’ll likely have most of the necessary ingredients for the recipes below at home already. If not, you’ll have no trouble finding them at the grocery store. Then, all you have to do is combine your ingredients and blend until smooth, pour into a glass, and enjoy!

Avocado and Strawberry Smoothie

Avocados are just made to go in smoothies as they have a silky and creamy texture perfect for blending. Plus, a smoothie made out of avocado will give you that nutritious kick necessary for tackling a hot summer’s day. The strawberries add a burst of sweetness that even kids won’t be able to resist.

All you need to make a creamy avocado and strawberry smoothie is:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled
  • 1 banana, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup almond milk

Very Berry Smoothie

A mixed berry smoothie is another one that kids are sure to love. It is a great choice for a quick breakfast or for a snack in the middle of the day. Not only is it sweet and refreshing, but all of the berries pack a powerful antioxidant punch as well.

Our suggested ingredients for a very berry smoothie are:

  • 1 cup of your favourite fruit juice
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blackberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries

Tropical Smoothie

Wish you could be off somewhere in the tropics? For a short while, you can pretend that you are relaxing on a beach with a smoothie blended from local ingredients in-hand. A tropical smoothie is a great treat to have while you sunbathe.

To make a tropical smoothie, simply combine:

  • 1 orange
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 banana

Super Simple Watermelon Smoothie

Watermelon is a star smoothie ingredient. It is so great, in fact, that you don’t really need to combine it with any other fruit. Watermelon smoothies also tend to take on more of a slushie consistency, which is perfect when you need to quickly refresh and hydrate on a hot day.

A watermelon smoothie couldn’t be easier to make. All you need is:

  • 5 cups frozen watermelon chunks
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Peach and Mango Smoothie

The sweet taste of peaches and mango combine wonderfully together. When made out of frozen fruit, the resulting smoothie is refreshingly frosty with a creamy consistency. It makes for a great after-dinner dessert on a humid evening.

To whip up a sweet and refreshing peach and mango smoothie, make sure you have:

  • Half of a banana
  • 1 cup sliced frozen peaches
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup peach nectar

Remember that smoothie recipes can be easily tweaked to suit your tastes and preferences. You can always put more or less of one ingredient, swap a certain type of milk for another, or add your favourite sweeteners. Start with the recipes provided and feel free to make them your own.
