2018 Kia Niro Hybrid
Sleeper Hit Continues to Grow in Popularity

“Demand is outpacing production at the moment,” KIA director of communications, James Bell has said. Mere months into its run, the Kia Niro is a sleeper hit in the hybrid market as the fourth-best-selling hybrid in America with a nearly 10-percent hybrid market share in April of 2017. As for the Niro’s ability to achieve even greater success in the near future, Kia is clearly beginning to see its potential.

And popularity is not the only area where the Niro has been excelling. The Kia Niro also received the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles reflecting higher quality among small SUVs in the J.D. Power 2017 U.S. Initial Quality Study, an impressive feat for an all-new model built on an all-new platform.

In fact, Niro is Kia’s first CUV designed from the ground up as a Hybrid-only model. Sleek and understated, the clean lines of Niro have been meticulously designed to minimize drag, making this aerodynamic marvel succeed in maximizing both fuel economy and providing a smoother, quieter ride.

Inside, Kia’s overachiever continues to impress. With standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, as well as available features like automatic dual-zone climate control, heated rear seats, and air-cooled front seats, you’ll be cozy even in the dead of winter.

Niro knows that life isn’t “one size fits all”. That’s why Niro gives you an incredible amount of storage space and multiple configurations to fit everything you need. With the second row seats in the upright position, Niro offers 635 L / 22.4 cu.ft.. of cargo space, but with the second row folded down, Niro can provide a cavernous 1,789 L / 63.2 cu. ft.

Smooth and reliable performance is delivered through our full parallel hybrid system that pairs an energy-dense 1.56 kWh lithium-ion battery, a lightweight electric motor and the Niro’s new 1.6L, gasoline-direct injection (GDI) engine for a combined 195 lb-ft of torque. The result is high-efficiency performance with L/100km (City/Highway/Combined fuel economy ratings of:

LX models – 4.5 / 4.8 / 4.7

EX models – 4.6 / 5.1 / 4.8

SX models – 5.1 / 5.8 / 5.4

The Niro makes the most of every driving situation. At low speeds, it will operate in EV (electric vehicle) mode. When you need a little extra power to accelerate and climb, the engine and motor run at the same time. The Niro can even recharge a low battery at fixed speeds.

Anytime you slow down, the regenerative braking system charges Niro up. Then, during deceleration, the electric traction motor captures the kinetic energy to recharge the battery.

And let’s not forget about Niro’s impressive list of available driver-assist and safety technologies including:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Park Assist
  • Smart Cruise Control
  • Front Collision Warning System
  • Backup Camera
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning and
  • Blind Spot Detection
