2017 Ford Super Duty
The Most Important Revision in 18 years

Ford celebrates 100 years of building some of the most durable and innovative trucks on the market. And it all started with the Ford TT, back in 1917. Ford’s Super Duty trucks have received a significant redesign during this centennial year and it’s more than worthy of the word “super”.

There have been major changes in technology and manufacturing in the last couple of decades. As you can imagine, the redesign of the 2017 Ford Super Duty is extensive.

Everything on the 2017 Ford Super Duties is new, except for the two gas and one diesel engine. But even the engines have received changes to be more efficient and deliver more power. The standard 6.2-litre V8 still outputs 385 horsepower, but the torque is up 25 lb.-ft to 430 lb.-ft overall.

The best-selling 6.7L turbo diesel accounts for half of all the Super Duty trucks sold in Canada and gets a big boost in torque: 925 lb.-ft. compared to the previous year’s 860 lb.-ft.

All Ford Super Duty trucks now have a lighter aluminium body that takes 158 kilogrammes off the weight. The lighter structure has a stronger frame that can handle the large loads owners expect a Super Duty to haul. The lighter yet stronger chassis can now handle a bigger payload and an increased towing capacity of up to 3,460 kilos and 9525 kilos, respectively.

The cabs on all 2017 Ford Super Duty models are roomier, thanks to the addition of 7.6 cm to the cab length wheelbase, that adds the length entirely to the cab. Besides a roomier interior, the rear seats now fold to reveal a flat floor with under-floor storage.

Most Super Duty owners haul trailers and Ford has not forgotten them. Two new additions that help with trailering have been named Straight-Line Backup Guidance and Trailer Reverse Guidance. Both systems use multiple cameras (up to seven, depending on the package) to pinpoint the trailer’s position in order to guide the driver by displaying a safe zone for reversing.

Besides the two guidance systems, Ford has included adaptive steering as standard on all Super Duty trucks. A steering-wheel mounted motor alters the truck’s steering ratio to reduce the amount of wheel turns required. It effectively creates less work for the driver on windy roads and in other conditions that require a lot of steering input.

Other trailer-towing assistance options include an auxiliary camera that can be mounted to the trailer, a tire-pressure monitor for up to six trailer tires, adaptive cruise control that can employ the trailer’s brakes, engine braking via the transmission to control speed on the descent and a blind-spot monitor that includes the trailer in its range.

The new and improved Ford Super Duty series will make hauling easier for the driver, as well as extend the capability that Super Duty owners expect. Come by to take the culmination of 100 years of innovation for a test drive at one of our dealers today.
