Top 8 Ski Resorts Across Canada

Incredibly spacious and covered with snow for a good portion of the year, Canada is a veritable paradise for alpine skiers. You’ll find no shortage of slopes on which to kick up some powder.

Mountainous British Columbia is generally the prime province for the perfect ski vacation, but there are stellar ski resorts located all across the country. Though it’s a tough list to narrow down, here are some of the best ski resorts in Canada that you want to visit at least once.

Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia

With over two million visitors every year, the side-by-side mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb make up Canada’s busiest ski resort. The resort has plenty of capacity for all of these visitors with 8,171 acres of terrain, 200 marked runs, and 16 alpine bowls. It is only a 121 km drive north of Vancouver.

Lake Louise Ski Resort, Alberta

Located in world-famous Banff National Park, on the Alberta-British Columbia border, the Lake Louise Ski Resort is arguably Canada’s most scenic resort. Just 57 km west of Banff town, the resort offers over 4,200 acres of skiable terrain, with a good mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced ski runs.

Mont Tremblant, Quebec

Mont Tremblant is easily Quebec’s premier ski destination. In fact, it is considered by many to be the best ski resort in all of eastern North America. The resort has 96 fantastic runs over 650 acres of terrain, powdered by one of the largest snow-making systems on the continent. It is located 130 km north of Montreal.

Fernie Alpine Resort, British Columbia

If freshly powdered slopes are what you are after, then visit the Fernie Alpine Resort just outside of the popular town of Fernie. The area sees an astounding annual average snowfall of 27 feet! You’ll get to enjoy five alpine bowls, 142 runs, and a vertical drop of over 1,000 metres.

Blue Mountain Resort, Ontario

The Blue Mountain Resort lies just north of Collingwood and is popular among skiers not only from southern Ontario but from across Canada. It is the third-busiest ski resort in the country, after Whistler Blackcomb and Mont Tremblant. At the Blue Mountain Resort, you’ll find 365 acres of skiable terrain along with 42 runs and 3 freestyle terrains.

Sunshine Village, Alberta

Even closer to Banff town than the Lake Louise Ski Resort, Sunshine Village straddles the continental divide and actually extends into British Columbia, allowing you to ski both provinces at once! Sunshine Village receives more snow than neighbouring resorts and typically enjoys a seven-month ski season, from November to May.

Kicking Horse Resort, British Columbia

If you’re really looking for adventure, then the Kicking Horse Resort located 14 km from the town of Golden is where you want to be. Here, you’ll find the fourth highest vertical drop on the continent, at 4,133 feet. There are also more than 120 runs over 3,486 skiable acres, with over 50% of them intended for advanced and expert level skiers.

Crabbe Mountain, New Brunswick

For the best skiing in the Atlantic Provinces, look no further than Crabbe Mountain. Just 50 km outside of Fredericton, the Crabbe Mountain ski hill offers the highest vertical in the Maritimes (at 853 feet). The hill has 20 runs and offers a mix of terrain for skiers of all skill levels. It’s also a great spot for nighttime skiing.

Wherever you are in Canada, chances are you’re not too far away from a ski resort with world-class runs and incredible views. If you get a chance to visit these amazing slopes, don’t pass it up.
