5 Best Shows to Binge-Watch on Netflix

Got some free time on your hands and looking for a good Netflix show to check out? Rather than browsing aimlessly through Netflix Canada’s offerings, here are some top suggestions.

These five quality shows all offer something a little different for different tastes, though you might just end up liking all of them if you give them a try. When it comes to great shows to binge-watch, these are some of Netflix’s best offerings.

1) Arrested Development

Arrested Development is a sitcom about the dysfunctional Bluth family. It follows Michael, the level-headed son who needs to take over the family business after his father is sent to prison for fraud. The series originally aired on Fox but was cancelled in 2006 after just three seasons, despite critical acclaim. Netflix continued the series in 2013 with a fourth season and plans to deliver a fifth season later this year. Now is the perfect time to get caught up.

2) Sense 8

Sense 8 is a bold and daring show about eight strangers from around the world who share a psychic connection. The diverse cast and creative storytelling garnered a committed cult fanbase but, unfortunately, Netflix cancelled the series after two seasons, citing high production cost. A massive public outcry followed, forcing the streaming giant to agree to a two-hour movie, set for a 2018 release, which will wrap up the plotlines and give fans closure. This is great news for anyone who wants to binge-watch the series but doesn’t want to be left hanging at the end.

3) Stranger Things

If you haven’t watched Stranger Things yet, it’s high time you see what all the fuss is about. Stranger Things is a critically acclaimed tribute to horror and sci-fi of the 1980s that follows a group of young children. The kids get wrapped up in the supernatural secrets hiding in and around their town. The first season was a smash hit that has already been followed up by a second, with a third currently in the works.

4) The Office

Though it already came to an end years ago, The Office seems to have only gained in popularity since then thanks to streaming services such as Netflix. The first season was a remake of the original UK show by the same name, but the US version of the show went off in its own direction and ended up with nine full seasons. Incredibly enjoyable to watch, The Office has fantastic binge value. It’s got great jokes, more than a few touching love stories, and a lot of heart.

5) Riverdale

Riverdale will likely start off as your guilty pleasure but, before long, you’ll be gushing over this high school drama with no shame. Based on the long-running Archie comics and currently in its second season, Riverdale puts a modern spin on the characters and on the situations they find themselves in. Though the show has a dark edge to it, it’s also got tons of camp, plenty of fan-pandering, and a super likeable cast. You’ll find yourself eating it right up.

So, what are you waiting for? If you’ve got a nice, quiet evening to enjoy, then navigate over to one of these five shows on your Netflix account and treat yourself to some “me time.”
