2018 Arts and Entertainment Inductees to Canada’s Walk of Fame

The 2018 inductees have recently been announced, and they are certainly deserving of the honour. Four names will be recognized in the Arts and Entertainment pillar this year: Andrea Martin, Any Kim, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg. Each has excelled in their fields and made a lasting impact on Canadian culture.

What is Canada’s Walk of Fame?

Like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Canada’s Walk of Fame is a walkway of maple leaf-like stars located along 13 blocks of King Street and Simcoe Street in downtown Toronto. The stars are situated in front of The Royal Alexandra Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall, and The Princess of Wales Theatre. The walkway was established in 1998 to recognize inspiring Canadians who have made their mark on Canada and on the world stage. Including the 2018 additions, there have been 173 names inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Meet the Inductees

Each of the inductees in this year’s Arts and Entertainment pillar of Canada’s Walk of Fame has a unique story to tell. They come from different backgrounds, have pursued very different careers, and have each added something irreplaceable to the cultural fabric of Canada.

Andrea Martin
This acclaimed actress and comedian may have been born in Portland, Main, but she became a citizen of Canada last year after falling in love with this country back in 1970. Martin has extensive stage credits to her name, including Private Lives, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Pippin, and The Boy Friend. She was a regular on Canadian SCTV, a sketch comedy series, for which she received two Emmy Awards for writing and one Emmy nomination for acting. Martin is also known for her roles in numerous films, including My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Andy Kim
Born in Montreal, singer/songwriter Andy Kim left to New York City to chase his dream of a career in music when he was just 16 years old. Kim’s illustrious career spans 50 years and 30 million record sales, featuring mega hits such as “Baby I Love You,” “Rock Me Gently,” and “Sugar Sugar.” Kim has released 10 albums in total, with the most recent, titled “It’s Decided,” in 2015. He continues to maintain a busy schedule of performances in Canada, including the annual Andy Kim Christmas Show in Toronto.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg
Best friends and writing partners who went to school together in Vancouver, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg started writing their hit film Superbad when they were just 13 years old. Rogen also frequently performed stand-up comedy at parties and bar mitzvahs when he was a teen. The two were inspired by the films that were frequently shot at their high school, which made them believe that they could one day make their own movies as well. They founded Point Grey Pictures in 2011, which has produced such films as The Disaster Artist, Sausage Party, The Interview, and Neighbours.

These upstanding and endlessly entertaining Canadians will officially be inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame at an awards show on December 1st, 2018. Their names will take their rightful place alongside Canadians who have inspired and empowered others over the years to follow their dreams and take advantage of the opportunities provided by this great country.
