A Look Ahead to the Most Anticipated Films of 2019

This year in film will see superheroes continue to reign supreme and Disney continue to stay at the top of its game. In order from the first to the last that will be hitting theatres, here are the 10 most anticipated films of 2019.

Glass
Coming in mid-January, Glass will be the third film in M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy. The film brings together the three main protagonists of the first two movies, played by Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson. Sarah Paulson is joining the cast as well.

Captain Marvel
Marvel’s first solo female superhero film, Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot turned superhero who gets caught up in a galactic war. The film, slated for a March release, will serve as a lead-in to the fourth Avengers instalment.

Avengers 4
The yet unnamed fourth Avenger’s film will be released in May, and not much has been revealed about it yet. What we do know is that it will wrap up the Thanos storyline and that it will be the end of “phase three” of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

John Wick 3: Parabellum
The third John Wick film will pick up right where the second left off, with Wick on the run. The titular character, played by Keanu Reeves, has become a modern action icon, and the film is sure to be a box office hit when it drops in May.

Aladdin
Also set to hit theatres in May, Aladdin is Disney’s live-action version of the beloved 1992 classic. The film is already generating a great deal of buzz, and the news that Will Smith will be playing the genie was very well received.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Rounding out the month of May will be the sequel to the 2014 Godzilla remake. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be the third film in the Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse. Aside from the big lizard, the film will also feature the monsters Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

Toy Story 4
Though many expected Toy Story 3 to end the franchise, the story continues with a fourth instalment centred on Buzz and Woody’s quest to find Woody’s love interest, Bo Peep. The main cast will be returning once again and the film is slated for a June release.

The Lion King
Another live-action remake of a Disney Classic, The Lion King will be coming out in July. The voice cast alone should be enough to get you excited, with James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa and Donald Glover and Beyoncé coming on board as Simba and Nala.

Frozen 2
Easily one of the most anticipated films on this entire list, Frozen 2 will be the follow up to Disney’s widely successful 2013 film Frozen. Coming to theatres in November and returning with all the original characters, Frozen 2 is already a sure hit.

Star Wars: Episode IX
While there’s still a whole year to go until Star Wars: Episode IX comes out next December, it’s hard to believe that the newest Star Wars trilogy is so close to ending. J.J. Abrams is back in the director’s chair but, beyond that, little else is known yet.

As you can see, most of the hotly anticipated movies of 2019 are sequels and remakes, so make sure you’re all caught up with each franchise in time for these new releases.
