Top Summer Food Festivals Across Canada

One of the best parts of the Canadian summer is the many food festivals. These celebrations of all things tasty offer the perfect way to enjoy warm weather and good company.

With so many food festivals happening over the next few months, it can be hard to know which ones to check out. We’ve put together a guide to the top six must-attend food celebrations that will be taking place across the country, from the west coast to the east.

Richmond Night Market – Richmond, BC (May 11 to October 8)

Lasting for the entire summer, the Richmond Night Market is an exciting and bustling festival that you’ll likely need a few days to fully experience. Over 100 different vendors serve up more than 500 different dishes and delicacies from all over Asia. Make sure you come hungry, or at least bring a large to-go bag!

Shediac Lobster Festival – Shediac, NB (June 29 to July 8)

Satisfy your craving for shellfish by heading to the Shediac Lobster Festival at the end of the month. Known as the Lobster Capital of the World, Shediac has been hosting the Lobster Festival for almost 70 years. Come enjoy the longest lobster roll in the world while seated around the world’s longest lobster dining table.

Taste of the Caribbean – Montreal, QC (July 12-15)

Though Montreal’s Taste of the Caribbean is not strictly a food festival, food plays an absolutely central role in this celebration of Caribbean culture. Immerse yourself in the flavours and aromas of the Caribbean while you sample dishes prepared by renowned chefs, such as Jamaican jerk chicken. Make sure you catch some of the many musical performances as well.

Taste of Edmonton – Edmonton, AB (July 18-29)

A summer tradition going strong for more than three decades now, Taste of Edmonton is a celebration of the city’s rich culinary scene. It provides an opportunity to sample food and beverages from Edmonton’s best restaurants. The Canadian Food Championships, a qualifier for the World Food Championships, also takes place during Taste of Edmonton.

Folklorama – Winnipeg, MB (August 5-18)

The world’s biggest and longest running multicultural festival, Folklorama presents the food, dance, art, and music of the various cultures that make up the vibrant Winnipeg community. On top of getting to sample cuisine from all around the world, you can take part in other cultural activities such as learning how to write your name in Devanagari.

The Gathering – Burlington, NL (August 23-25)

The Gathering is an outdoor celebration of fire, music, and, of course, food. What began as a small event has grown over the years to draw world-class chefs and musical acts from across Eastern Canada. Despite its growth, The Gathering invokes a cozy feeling of returning home. This laid-back festival truly allows you to relax as you take in the great outdoors with some great food.

As you can see, Canada offers no shortage of opportunities to treat your taste buds. If you plan on taking a trip this summer, then try to incorporate a visit to one or two of these festivals into your travels.
