Alight at Night
Outdoor Light Festival at Upper Canada Village

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than at the biggest outdoor light festival in Eastern Ontario? Come see over one million lights during Alight at Night in Upper Canada Village.

During the holiday season, Upper Canada Village is transformed into a true winter wonderland. Each of the heritage buildings and many of the trees and fences on the property are decorated with beautiful lights that bathe the whole area in a magical glow. Bundle up and stroll through a picturesque setting with holiday photo opportunities around every corner.

Alight at Night will be taking place between November 30, 2018, and January 5, 2019. However, the village will not be open every single night. You can come see the light show from 5 pm to 9 pm between November 30 to December 2, December 5 to December 9, December 13 to December 16, December 20 to December 23, and December 26 to January 5th.

Upper Canada Village is a living history site that transports visitors back to the 1860s. The village is made up of over 40 authentic period buildings, including homes, workshops, and mills. While most of the buildings will be closed as Alight at Night is a largely outdoor event, they provide a lovely backdrop as you walk through the streets of the village.

A few buildings will be open if you want to step inside and warm up for a bit. The bakery will be preparing delicious bread and cinnamon rolls that can be purchased from the Village Store, Christ Church will be open for Christmas carolling, and Crysler Hall will be open for visits with Santa up until December 23rd.

If you’ve got little ones or if you just want to give your feet a break as you sit back and enjoy the light displays, then hop onto one of the old-fashioned horse-drawn carriages that depart every half hour. Carriage rides are included in the price of admission, but seating is limited and departures are weather-dependant. For an additional fee, you can even enjoy a romantic private carriage ride for two. Just be sure to make reservations in advance.

Wednesday, December 5th is a special night at Upper Canada Village known as Accessibility Night. During this evening only, visitors will be allowed to tour Alight at Night inside of their vehicles, making it possible for everyone to see the light displays.

The price of admission to Alight at Night is $16 for adults, $12 for youth ages five to 12, and free for children under five. During Accessibility Night, the price is $15 per person. Note that ticket sales end at 8:30 pm every night.

Alight at Night tends to be busiest on Saturday evenings and in the days leading up to Christmas, so plan your visit accordingly. Make sure you check the forecast and dress for the weather. Upper Canada Village can often feel quite chilly as it is located on the banks of the St. Lawrence, so consider bundling up a little extra.

Whenever you choose to visit, make sure you’re ready with a camera to capture the displays. Don’t worry if you miss anything – you’ll definitely be back next year to see it all again!
