Celebrating Winter at the Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival

Collingwood’s Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival proves that winter doesn’t have to get you down and that the cold weather of the season can instead help create stunning works of art.

The Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival lets you enjoy the wonders of winter and provides a fantastic opportunity to spend time with family and friends between Christmas and New Year’s. You’ll get a chance to admire the beautiful ice sculptures and to enjoy the festival’s Winter Wonderland Village from December 28th to December 30th.

The biggest draw of the Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival is, of course, the ice sculptures! These spectacular pieces can be viewed throughout Downtown Collingwood over the course of the festival. In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, each of the 30 ice sculptures will have a unique story to tell about the history of the community of Collingwood, the province of Ontario, and of the country as a whole.

While the sculptures can all be viewed during the day, you definitely want to try seeing them after the sun sets as well. After dark, the glittering ice sculptures will all be illuminated by an array of lights, lending a magical feel to Downtown Collingwood.

The other major component of the Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival is the Winter Wonderland Village presented by Simcoe County Tourism. Open from 1 pm to 4 pm during all three days of the festival, the Winter Wonderland Village will be located on Simcoe Street and Tremont Lane. Make sure you stop by for some family-friendly winter fun and games.

Winter Wonderland Village festivities kick off every day at 1 pm with the Battle of the Chainsaws, an exciting ice carving competition. Watch as world-renowned ice carvers go head-to-head creating incredible ice sculptures and battling it out for the crowd’s approval. They’ll be putting their carving skills to the test by creating historic buildings and other iconic images from Collingwood’s past.

After watching the competition, be sure to check out the numerous other activities at the Winter Wonderland Village. Visit the Collingwood Public Library to make some crafts at the Kids’ Craft Centre or stop by Tremont Lane to play giant versions of classic family games such as Jenga, Yahtzee, and Connect Four. Take a wagon tour through historic downtown, departing regularly from Town Hall every day between 12 pm and 4 pm. Afterwards, you can warm up by the fire at the Cocoa Cabin and Fireside Family Lounge with some hot chocolate.

New to the 2017 Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival is a gigantic double ice slide for everyone to enjoy. Zoom down in tandem with your kids or with your significant other to experience laughs and thrills all the way to the bottom.

Make your final weekend of December 2017 a memorable one. If you’re looking for a fun activity to fill the time between Christmas and New Year’s, then gather up your friends and family and head down to the Frozen in Time Ice Sculpture Festival and Winter Wonderland Village.
