New Technology for the Mercedes Benz AMG Line
Improved LED lighting, enhanced interior, and new options for all models

Mercedes-Benz is upgrading its AMG line again, offering GLA and GLB customers even more performance, choice, and quality of life. The upgraded GLA 35 4MATIC will launch in early Q4 2023, while the new GLB 35 4MATIC will arrive in early Q4 2024.

New Lighting And Features

The upcoming GLA and GLB will offer LED lighting as part of their standard packages. Additionally, drivers can choose Multibeam LEDs, an advanced technology that lets you run full beam at night without dazzling on-coming drivers.

For aesthetics, Mercedes-Benz will now also paint the GLA’s wheel arch extensions the same colour as the rest of the vehicle, while both models will get new light alloy wheels in the 19-inch range.

Electrified AMG Engine With Hybrid Functionality

The vehicle’s electric powertrain will also see substantial upgrades. The GLA 35 4MATIC and GLB 35 4MATIC now come with a belt-driven starter generator (RSG) and an additional 48-volt onboard power supply on the engine side as standard. Drivers can use the RSG as a mild hybrid, providing a temporary 10kW or 13 horsepower boost when needed, making it easier for the vehicle to activate coasting and recuperative functions.

Performance is also a priority on the new vehicles. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G transmission and AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive distribute the 225 kW (302 hp) output of the powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine to all four wheels, resulting in a sporty driving experience. The driving experience is similar to other top Mercedes-Benz electric and hybrid models, with both sports and touring driving modes available.

Improved Interior And User Interface

As for technology, Mercedes-Benz equips the new GLA and GLB with improved interior and MBUX systems. Vehicles come with the latest AMG steering wheel as standard, with clear steering wheel buttons controlling all aspects of the in-car experience.

The modernized MBUX infotainment system is state-of-the-art, offering drivers a touchscreen interface and expanded functionality. Enhanced connectivity comes in the form of a new USB-C port, while mini-games help keep drivers, passengers, and children entertained while parked or on the road.

Some GLA and GLB variants come with Mercedes’ Active Lane Keeping Assist, which improves comfort by nudging the vehicle gently back into line instead of activating the ESP system. Parking is also a breeze, owing to parallel parking assist and an optional 360° visualization camera.

Extra Options

Mercedes-Benz will add a long list of optional extras to each vehicle. At launch, drivers will be able to select from various 10-spoke alloy wheels with turned surface finish, a set of 20-inch AMG wheels with five double-spoke designs, and wheels with or without a protective flange. The automaker will also include various seat covers for standard spots or AMG sports seats.
