Little Manitou Gallery Hosts Annual Reception

Looking for something to do in Manitou Beach at the end of June? Stop by for some fun, sun, and local art at the Little Manitou Art Gallery’s Annual Art Affair on Sunday, June 30th.

Though only a few years old, the Annual Art Affair is already a well-loved tradition that many look forward to every year. It serves both as a commemoration of the gallery’s opening and as a reception for the gallery’s many artists, who get to display and sell their beautiful artistic creations. The event is completely free to attend and fun for the whole family, so don’t hesitate to bring along the little ones.

The Annual Art Affair is a celebration of Saskatchewan art and the talented artists who create it. This year, it will feature over 100 artists and artisans who will be displaying their work in pop-up booths around the gallery. There will be a total of five small and separate pavilions along the pathways of the gallery’s Spiral Sculpture Garden. Simply follow the paths to make your way to all of them. Along the way, you’ll also get to see musicians and other performers on the outdoor stage.

There will be plenty of artwork for sale, so bring some extra cash and keep your eyes open for beautiful pieces and artists you want to support. Children are encouraged to play in the garden and count all of the artwork they find. They will be rewarded with a special gift from the garden’s treasure chest. The grounds of the gallery also include the original Little Gallery, the more recently added East Gallery, and a South Bay for visiting artist displays.

Little Manitou Art Gallery was established in 2013 by owners and artists Clayton Cave and Sarah McKen. Both artists have their own working studio on-site, which guests are encouraged to visit. The Four Feathers carving studio is where Clayton creates jewellery and custom-built knives while the Bronze Inspirations foundry is where Sarah casts bronze sculptures.

The gallery is open all year, with longer hours during the summer months. It is situated on the north shore of Little Manitou Lake, along Elizabeth Avenue. If the weather is nice, consider going for a swim! Little Manitou Lake is unique in that it is one of the saltiest bodies of water on earth, with about half the salinity of the Dead Sea. This allows swimmers to float with little effort.

There are plenty of other activities to check out in Manitou Beach once you’re finished up at the Little Manitou Art Gallery. The resort village is home to a large dance hall, a regional park, a 9-hole golf course, and the Manitou Springs Resort and Mineral Spa where you can relax and unwind.

Come enjoy a resort vacation and spend some time celebrating the art of the prairies at the Little Manitou Art Gallery. There will be plenty to see and do all day long, and you may just come away with a beautiful new piece of artwork to display at home.
