Get faster and more convenient charging across Canada

The all-electric 2017 Nissan LEAF continues to be the world’s best-selling, 100 percent electric vehicle. And according to Nissan, more than 2,500 have been sold in Canada. As gas prices rise, many Canadians would love to own the LEAF but are hesitant, worried about what would happen if they ran out of electric power during their drive.

Luckily, charging systems are becoming more readily available across the country thanks to FLO, the most comprehensive charging ecosystem in Canada. Nissan has recently announced that it would be partnering with FLO to grow electric vehicle adoption throughout the country by making charging faster, more convenient and easier.

For Nissan LEAF owners, the new FLO Home charging station is the recommended residential charging station by Nissan Canada. If you’ve wanted to get your hands on a new 2017 Nissan LEAF, Nissan will offer a $500 discount on the FLO Home charging station to every buyer of a new LEAF vehicle through the end of March. That means the waterproof and cold-weather-proof G5 charging station can be yours for a little less than half price after the discount.

Louis Tremblay, President of FLO explains, “More than 80% of EV charging occurs at home. That’s why EV owners must count on a reliable, efficient and sturdy residential charging station to be sure that their car is ready to go whenever they need it.” The FLO Home charging station is compatible with all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle models. Charging a vehicle for 90 minutes will provide up to 50 kilometres in range to cover the average distance travelled daily by Canadian drivers.

Besides the home charging station discount, FLO will also give Nissan LEAF owners a free access card to its charging network of more than 3,000 charging stations from coast to coast. It’s the largest of its kind.

The 2017 Nissan LEAF continues mainly unchanged from previous years. Rumours have it that Nissan is busy redesigning a second-generation model for launch in the future and doesn’t want to make too many big changes to this model, which simply works well and doesn’t need much fixing.

The biggest change for 2017 is the 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack which was available only in 2016 SV and SL models is now standard on all trim levels. The 30-kWh battery improves range, giving the LEAF an EPA-rated 172 kilometres on a single charge.

All LEAF models continue to be front-wheel drive and use an 80-kilowatt (107-horsepower) electric motor producing 187 pound-feet of torque.

LEAF-S models have a standard 3.6-kW onboard charger which can be upgraded to a 6.6-kW charger. Or you can just go with the SV or SL trim package that is fitted with the 6.6-kW charger as standard. The difference between the two chargers saves you an hour in charge time. According to Nissan, the 3.6-kW charger takes 7 hours to charge and the 6.6-kW charger roughly 6 hours.

The Nissan LEAF is just the beginning of a wave of eco-friendly driving options that are not only good for the environment but also good for saving loonies. We have a selection of 2017 LEAF models in stock. If you’ve been considering buying one as a solid, economical commuter, there’s no better time than now since the FLO discount is good till the end of March.
