Laughs, Thrills, and Nostalgia
New Shows to Look Forward to This Fall

After a fantastic summer TV season, it’s time to look forward to some exciting new fall shows. This coming fall promises a roster of hilarious comedies, intriguing dramas, and more than a little nostalgia.

While plenty of old and acclaimed favourites are coming back for fall 2017, networks have also ramped up their lineup of new offerings. Since it’s not practical to tune into every new show that comes along, here are some recommendations for shows that look like they’ll be worth your time.

Star Trek: Discovery – September 24

Trekkies, rejoice! It’s been over a decade since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded, and fans have been waiting patiently to return to the stars again. Star Trek: Discovery will take place during the Federation-Klingon cold war, about ten years prior to the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. The show will also feature two female protagonists, portrayed by Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin-Green.

Will & Grace – September 28

That’s right, the iconic sitcom Will & Grace is getting a reboot as well. After 11 years off the air, Will & Grace is returning with 12 new episodes and all four original stars. Fan anticipation is so high that NBC has already renewed Will & Grace for season two.

Ten Days in the Valley – October 1

An original series, Ten Days in the Valley is this year’s top pick for whodunit fans. The story follows crime series TV producer and single mother Jane Sadler (portrayed by Kyra Sedgwick), whose daughter disappears in the middle of the night. In Ten Days in the Valley no one can be trusted, perhaps not even Jane herself.

Ghosted – October

Ghosted, a supernatural buddy comedy, immediately gets points for excellent casting. Adam Scott (of Parks and Recreation) plays a bookstore clerk who believes in the supernatural while Craig Robinson (of The Office) plays a skeptic cop. The two are recruited to look into “unexplained” activity that has been happening around Los Angeles.

The Gifted – October 2

Following up on early 2017’s Legion, Gifted is the second TV series from executive producer Bryan Singer to take place in the X-Men universe. Gifted will follow the story of two parents who find out that their children are mutants with extraordinary powers. The family must go underground to hide from hostile government forces.

Young Sheldon – November 2

Fans of The Big Bang Theory will want to tune into this spinoff and prequel, which will centre on a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper as he attends high school in East Texas in 1989. Jim Parsons, who portrays adult Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, will provide the narration for Young Sheldon.

There’s no doubt about it: TV buffs have quite the fall roster to look forward to. Don’t forget to save the dates above so that when the evening comes, you can snuggle up with your favourite throw and tune in to what just might be your next favourite show.
