Happy in Hollywood
Celebrity Couples Who Make You Believe in Love

After the recent split of everyone’s favourite celebrity couple, Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, many people are wondering whether Hollywood love can ever last. Thankfully, we have some great examples which prove that it can.

The eight couples below have all been married or together for many years and are going as strong as ever. Despite the fact that it seems most Hollywood relationships don’t survive, these crazy kids have somehow made it work.

1) Meryl Streep and Don Gummer

Meryl Streep and sculptor Don Gummer got married in 1978, just six months after Streep’s former partner, actor John Cazale died of lung cancer. Though Streep admitted that she wasn’t yet over Cazale’s death at the time, her marriage to Gummer was clearly meant to be. The pair has four children together, two of whom are also actors.

2) Denzel and Pauletta Washington

Denzel and Pauletta Washington first met on the set of the television film Wilma in 1977. The pair got married in 1983 and now have four children together. One interesting fact about this couple is that, in 1995, they had a vow renewal ceremony in South Africa which was officiated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

3) Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres began dating in 2004 after meeting backstage at an awards show. In 2005, de Rossi began opening up about her relationship and her sexual orientation. DeGeneres and de Rossi were married in 2008 in a small ceremony at their Beverly Hills home, and their marriage remained valid despite the passage of California’s Proposition 8.

4) Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith

Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith met in 1995 on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, when Jada was auditioning for the part of Will’s girlfriend. Though she didn’t land the role, the two became friends and started dating. They got married in 1997 and have two children together. Jada is also the stepmother to Will’s son from a prior marriage.

5) Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Though they first met in 1968, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell didn’t start dating until 1983 while working together on the set of Swing Shift. The two became step parents to each other’s children and, in 1986, had another son together as well.  Hawn and Russell never married but there is no questioning their commitment.

6) Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson fell in love while working together on the 1985 film Volunteers, though they had met a few years earlier on the set of Bosom Buddies, an ABC sitcom that Hanks starred in at the time. The couple got married in 1988, and they have two sons together.

7) Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness

After meeting on the set of an Australian TV show named Correlli, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness got married in 1996. Their wedding rings bear a Sanskrit phrase which translates to, “we dedicate our union to a greater source.” The couple has two adopted children together.

8) Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Though Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, they didn’t begin dating until three years later. The couple was married in 2002 and today have two children. Geller and Prinze have also worked on many additional film and television projects together.

The myth that Hollywood romances don’t last is just that – a myth. High-profile breakups make for more sensational headlines, but there are plenty of celebrity couples who have made it work, including the happy couples above.
