Putting up Halloween décor is a great way to get into the spirit of the spooky season. While there are plenty of Halloween decorations available at the store, making your own can be a lot more fun and economical. 

Whether you need to prepare your home for a Halloween party or if you’d just like to create a spooky haunted house for the trick-or-treaters, here are four easy DIY Halloween decoration ideas to try this year. 

Milk Jug Ghosts 

Decorate your walkway or your doorstep with one or several milk jug ghosts, depending on how many extra milk jugs you’ve saved. All you have to do to make this craft is to clean out a milk jug and use black construction paper to glue a scary ghost face on the front of the jug. Light the milk jug up by cutting a hole in the bottom and setting the jug down on top of an LED candle. Alternatively, you can line up a row of jugs and use a string of white Christmas lights to light up all of them by popping a few lights into the top of each one. 

Glowing Eyes 

For this craft, all you need is some toilet paper tubes, some glow sticks, black paint, and duct tape. Start by drawing a pair of creepy eyes on the toilet paper tubes and cutting them out with a pair of small scissors. On Halloween, crack some glow sticks and place one inside of each tube you’ve prepared. Then, close both sides of the roll using duct tape and paint the roll black. Put your glowing eyes into any bushes and trees around your home to creep out passersby and trick-or-treaters! 

Giant Spider Web 

Spider webs are among the most common Halloween decorations. You can make your own giant spider web with just a roll of yarn and some double-sided tape (preferably clear tape). Start by cutting out about 100 to 150 squares of tape (don’t worry, it won’t take long). Stick the squares onto your wall in the shape of a spider web. Start by creating the largest or the smallest circle of the web and work your way in or out from there. Then, create anywhere from seven to ten straight lines extending from the middle of the spider web outwards. All that’s left to do is cut your pieces of yarn and stick them onto the tape! 

Jar Jack-O-Lanterns 

Instead of or in addition to a pumpkin jack-o-lantern, you can also make some jack-o-lanterns out of variously sized jars. Aside from the jars, you’ll just need some black construction paper, orange tissue paper, a foam brush, and some Mod Podge. Use the foam brush to coat the outside of the jar with Mod Podge and then carefully adhere the tissue paper over top. Next, draw some spooky eyes and a mouth on the construction paper, cut them out, and stick them onto the jar with some Mod Podge as well. Now just pop an LED tea light inside and watch your jar jack-o-lantern light up! 

With just some basic craft tools and items that you likely have around the house, you can transform your home into the spookiest house on the street. Best of all, you won’t have to stretch the budget in order to do it.
