5 Fall-Themed Crafts for Kids

With the temperatures dropping outside, you are likely looking for more activities to do with the kids inside. One way to spend an enjoyable afternoon is to make some fall-themed crafts. Check out these five simple and seasonal crafts that children will get a kick out of.

Pine Cone Hedgehogs

A super cute craft, pine cone hedgehogs use some basic crafting materials, as well as some materials provided by nature. Start by visiting your backyard or taking a nature walk to find a few pinecones. Then, take brown felt or construction paper and cut out one large triangle and two small triangles for the hedgehog’s face and ears. Glue the face and ears on the top of the pine cone, allow it to dry, and glue on some black beads for the eyes and the nose.

Toilet Paper Roll Scarecrow

All you have to do to make this enjoyable and easy craft is save up a few toilet paper rolls and gather up materials like construction paper, scissors, glue, markers, and googly eyes. Start by drawing a face and attaching the googly eyes near the top of the roll. Then, let your kids cut out and glue some paper to make the scarecrow’s clothing and hat. Fake straw can make great hair if you have it, but you can also use brown or yellow strips of paper.

Fall Mobile

Aside from twine, all of the materials for this craft can be gathered on a short nature walk. Head outside and pick up some fall goodies like pinecones, leaves, acorns, and anything else you come across. Make sure you find some strong sticks as well. Once inside, tie the sticks together to make a mobile, and use additional string to hang the rest of your treasures from the mobile in a balanced way. Hang from the ceiling for a lovely seasonal decoration.

Popcorn Tree

For a craft that is both tasty and teachable, try this easy popcorn tree. First, step into your yard to pick up a few twigs of varying sizes. Glue the sticks onto a heavy piece of white construction paper or cardboard in the shape of a tree. Next, pop a bag of buttered popcorn and divide the popcorn into three large ziplock bags. Add a spoonful of red, yellow, or orange powdered tempera paint into each bag, then shake it up to coat the popcorn. Transfer the popcorn to bowls and use liquid glue to stick it all around the branches of the tree.

Bubble Wrap Corn

Spare bubble wrap isn’t just fun to pop! You can also use it to make a colourful ear of corn. First, cut the bubble wrap into an oval shape and set up some yellow, orange, red, and purple paint. Paint each bubble with the different colours so that they look like individual pieces of corn. Let the bubble wrap dry, then glue it onto a piece of green or yellow construction paper. Punch out a hole in the top so that you can hang it up!

Winter is on its way, so celebrate the beautiful and colourful fall while you can with some timely crafts. It’s a great way to admire the season while staying warm and cozy inside!
