Safer Travels: Top Destinations for a Post-Pandemic Vacation
Where to go on your next trip.

While the world likely won’t be truly “post-pandemic” any time soon, some places are starting to open back up again, making it possible to start planning a trip. As you begin looking at prospective travel destinations, you should focus on places that have been the least affected by the pandemic.

It is important to note that, wherever and whenever you decide to travel again, you will need to follow all restrictions and guidelines regarding COVID-19, both at home and at your destination. Your packing list will also need to include items like face masks and hand sanitizer.

With these caveats in mind, here are five destinations that should be at the top of the list for your next vacation.

1. Iceland

Iceland is considered to have had one of the world’s best responses to COVID-19, and it has largely returned to normal as a result. This is welcome news for travellers, as this beautiful country has become a very popular destination over the past decade. Once a hidden gem, Iceland is now renowned for its stunning landscapes, which include volcanoes, lava flows, geysers, glaciers, and strikingly blue lagoons. The capital, Reykjavik is also known for its fantastic bar culture.

2. New Zealand

Like Iceland, New Zealand has been successful in seemingly stamping out the virus. The island nation is cautiously reopening, but the international border remains closed, for now. When travel is permitted again, visitors will be able to take in some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet. New Zealand is home to rugged mountains, sprawling forests, glaciers fjords, beaches, sparkling lakes, and a plethora of outdoor activities that let you enjoy it all.

3. Georgia

Despite outbreaks among its neighbours, Georgia had a successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The response was so effective that the country is beginning to open its borders. Georgia is an often-overlooked destination that has a lot to offer, from the historic streets of the capital city Tbilisi to the fantastic hiking opportunities in the Tusheti region. It has a unique culture featuring a mix of European, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern influences.

4. Greece

Always a top travel destination for its rich history and natural beauty, Greece was eager to return to normal. The country worked hard to keep COVID-19 cases low and its tourism sector going. Visitors in the near future can expect a sort of “new normal” with masks, barriers, and distancing, but the renowned Greek hospitality continues to shine through. Historic attractions, beaches, and al fresco dining patios are all open, allowing for a quintessential Greek vacation.

5. The Maldives

The Maldives reopened to all global tourists in July, as this world-class travel destination is uniquely positioned for tourism during a pandemic. The country is made up of over 1,000 islands, and the exclusive resorts usually have an island all to themselves. A typical resort has everything you need for your stay, including beautiful beaches, shops, bars, restaurants, and a range of activities, making a vacation to The Maldives its own form of luxury quarantine.

When planning your next vacation, your most important choice will be the destination. Tourism will certainly look different for the foreseeable future, but travelling in a safer and more responsible manner will help ensure that these wonderful destinations can remain open.
