Pioneer Trick-Or-Treating
The Great Pumpkin Trail at Muskoka Heritage Place

As Halloween approaches, many families are getting excited for the Great Pumpkin Trail through the Huntsville pioneer village at Muskoka Heritage Place. This year marks the well-loved event’s 30th anniversary.

The Great Pumpkin Trail will be open for all to attend on Wednesday, October 31 from 5 pm to 8 pm. This is a family-focused event that provides an excellent alternative trick-or-treating experience without needing to worry about traffic. Admission to the pioneer village on Halloween is just $3 per person or $10 per family.

Since you won’t have to worry about cars, you can feel confident letting your little ones run free as they go from door-to-door to trick-or-treat at the wonderfully decorated village buildings. Parents and children will get to enjoy a spooky ambiance and a family-friendly atmosphere. The buildings are always decked out in spider webs and the hay bales and other types of rustic decor throughout the property take you back to pioneer times.

There are 13 historic buildings located in the Huntsville pioneer village at Muskoka Heritage Place. During Halloween, each building is decorated by a different community sponsor. This may include community groups, businesses, or even private individuals. Volunteers then dress up in costumes and hand out candy to the visiting children.

While you can expect a spooky atmosphere in the spirit of the holiday, the event is appropriate for kids of all ages and kept on the lighter side of scary so as not to frighten young children. The goal is for everyone to be able to take part in a fun night of trick or treating and to admire the fun and creative costumes of other attendees.

When you enter the Huntsville pioneer village, you will be given a map to lead you to each of the 13 heritage buildings on site. You should always keep an eye on your little ones as you make your way through, but you won’t have to worry about them getting too far as the village is fully enclosed.

If you’ve got very small children and would like to finish trick-or-treating before it gets too dark out, then it’s recommended that you join the festivities before 6:30 pm. After nightfall, there is still typically plenty of moonlight and other sources of light to illuminate your way from one building to the next.

No matter what time you plan to stop by the Huntsville pioneer village at Muskoka Heritage Place, you’ll find lots of parking available at the upper lot, which is located at 88 Brunel Road. The main admission entrance is located here as well. Note that last admission through the gates will be at 7:30 pm.

Muskoka Heritage Place hosts a plethora of annual family-friendly events, with the Great Pumpkin Trail being among the most popular. For three decades now, families have been returning to the Huntsville pioneer village because it provides a safe space for their children to enjoy Halloween. Just like every year prior, this year promises plenty of candy to collect and plenty of fantastic Halloween costumes to admire.
