Learn a New Skill or Two at the Toronto Woodworking Show

The newest consumer woodworking show in Canada, the Toronto Woodworking Show is coming to the International Centre in Mississauga from Friday, February 22nd to Sunday, February 24th. It will run from 10 am to 5 pm each day. Tickets cost $15 for a one-day pass or $25 for a three-day pass, and children 12 and under get into the show for free. Parking at the International Centre will also be free.

The Toronto Woodworking Show is hosted by Oak Leaf Productions and offers both professionals and hobbyists a chance to come and celebrate everything to do with woodworking. It might surprise some to hear that woodworking is actually making quite the comeback, especially among millennials.

Woodworking is part of a much larger trend of people getting into making things with their hands. In a world where technology is able to instantaneously meet so many of our needs and wants, the idea of crafting something by hand has started to look more appealing. The simple act of creating something, whether it’s growing a flower or carving a small wooden sculpture, has become downright cool.

A new generation of knitters, crocheters, artists, gardeners, woodworkers, and other types of artisans are taking advantage of the information and videos available on the internet and learning how to do it themselves. While there are plenty of online resources that the novice woodworker can take advantage of, there is no substitute for seeing woodworking in action at the Toronto Woodworking Show.

Come see expert woodworkers demonstrate their craft as they complete a woodworking project from start to finish, and pay a visit to some of the numerous exhibitors showcasing their products and resources. Just some of the exhibitors coming to the Toronto Woodworking Show this year include Atlas Tools & Machinery, Legacy Lumber, KING Canada, Canadian Woodworker, Black Walnut Studio, and the Ontario Wood Carvers Association.

The Toronto Woodworking Show will be taking place in conjunction with the Toronto Woodworking Championship. The competition is open to woodworkers, woodcarvers, and woodturners of all skill levels and experience. You’ll get the chance to see unique, handcrafted creations from local artists. All championship entries will be on display for the duration of the weekend.

To hone your own woodworking skills, don’t miss out on the fantastic seminars that will be held at the show. Learn helpful techniques for woodworking and wood carving, as well as how to effectively use chisels, planes, and bandsaws. Or, you can simply walk around and check out all of the latest power tools, hand tools, and design trends from the show exhibitors.

Even if you’re not a woodworking enthusiast, the Toronto Woodworking Show provides a great opportunity to expose yourself to something new and maybe pick up a cool new hobby along the way. Have yourself a fun weekend at the end of February by making a visit to the Toronto Woodworking show a part of it.
