Baking for Dogs
Homemade Biscuits Your Pet Will Love

Interested in making some homemade treats for your dog? Dog biscuits are quick and easy to whip up, and they only require simple ingredients that you likely already have in the kitchen.

Baking your own dog biscuits is a great way to treat your pet and save some money at the pet store. Plus, dogs tend to be very forgiving taste testers, so you don’t have to worry about getting everything perfect. Here are some ideas for homemade biscuits that are sure to be a hit with your furry pal.

Classic Peanut Butter Biscuits

Dogs love the smell and taste of peanut butter, and it is perfectly fine for them to eat in moderation. These classic peanut butter dog biscuits won’t take long to prepare, and seeing your pup’s happy tail when you offer them one makes it worth the effort.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water

Note – if you use chunky peanut butter, you may need to add a bit more water for workable dough.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Mix all of your ingredients together in a large bowl until combined.

2. Roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter or a knife to cut it into shapes. Some people like to use a dog-bone cookie cutter, but you can also simply cut the dough into strips.

3. Transfer the biscuits onto a baking sheet and bake for around 15-20 minutes, until the treats are lightly browned on top.

4. The finished biscuits can be kept at room temperature for 2-3 weeks in an airtight container.

Feel free to tweak the recipe with other ingredients you think your dog might like. Consider adding in a whole mashed banana, 1/3 cup of applesauce, or 1/3 cup of pumpkin puree to change up the flavour once in a while.

Leftover Turkey or Chicken Biscuits

Homemade dog biscuits are also a good way to use up any leftover chicken or turkey meat that you might have. You can keep the meat from going to waste and make a tasty treat for your dog at the same time. Just stockpile the meat in the freezer until you have enough to make a batch or two.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped chicken or turkey
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup water or chicken/turkey stock

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix until the batter is thick.

2. Use a tablespoon to drop scoops of batter onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Slightly flatten the tops with the back of the spoon.

3. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

4. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

Put a little extra love into your pup’s treats by baking them some biscuits from scratch at home. With such simple ingredients and a quick cook and prep time, you can easily make another batch when they start running low.
