Must-See Movies This April

It’s not quite yet time for the big summer blockbusters, but the month of April definitely won’t disappoint moviegoers with its stellar line-up of must-see flicks.

Whether you’re in the mood for a comedy, a drama, an action movie, an adventure film, or a thought-provoking thriller, you’ll be able to catch one if you head to the theatre this month. Though there are a lot of movies coming out, here are the ones that you just can’t miss.

– Going in Style (April 7)

You can start off your movie-going this month with Going in Style, a heist comedy film which is a remake of a 1979 film by the same name. Starring the fantastic trio of Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, and Michael Caine, Going in Style follows three lifelong friends whose pension funds have disappeared to corporate greed. In order to pay bills and provide for their loved ones, the three friends make the bold decision to rob the bank that’s responsible for their grief.

– Gifted (April 12)

Gifted is the touching story of a child prodigy named Mary (Mckenna Grace) who is being raised by her uncle Frank (Chris Evans). Though Frank wants his seven-year-old niece to have a normal school experience, his mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) feels that Mary’s unique gifts would be better nurtured at a school for children like her. Evelyn draws Frank into a custody battle which threatens to separate Mary from Frank. Gifted also stars Octavia Spencer and Jenny Slate.

– The Fate of the Furious (April 12)

The first Fast & Furious film since The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift without the star Paul Walker, The Fate of the Furious has been eagerly but also sombrely anticipated by fans. In this eighth series instalment, most of the team have moved on to live relatively normal lives. That is, until Dom (Vin Diesel) is tempted back into the world he thought he’d left behind. The star-packed cast also includes Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood, Chris Bridges, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, and Nathalie Emmanuel.

– The Lost City of Z (April 21)

The Lost City of Z is a biographical, action adventure film about British explorer Percy Fawcett. Played by Charlie Hunnam, the movie follows Fawcett as he sets out to find a lost, ancient Amazonian city in an attempt to prove that an advanced and previously unknown civilization used to inhabit the region. Having debuted at the New York Film Festival back in October, The Lost City of Z has already garnered positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, so you can be sure that it’s a safe bet.

– The Circle (April 28)

If you’re itching to see a thriller, then at the end of the month you can catch The Circle starring the ever-popular Emma Watson. Alongside Watson are such big names as Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, John Boyega, Patton Oswalt, Ellar Coltrane, and Karen Gillan. Based on a novel by the same name, The Circle is about a tech and social media company which is pushing the boundaries of ethics and privacy.

No matter what kind of film you feel like seeing with your friends, family, or with a date this month, April is sure to deliver.
